Senran Kagura Game Series Has Sold More Than 1.65 Million Units

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Senran Kagura series producer Kenichirō Takaki revealed on Sunday that the game series has sold a worldwide total of more than 1.65 million units. He further remarked that he was once told that if the original game "sold 30,000 units, it would be great." He also said, "Sales aren't everything, but it'd be great if it sold more. It'd be nice to have some pocket money, right?"

The Senran Kagura franchise began with the release of the original game on the Nintendo 3DS in September 2011. The games inspired a television anime in 2013. Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and released it on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2014.

Marvelous established its Honey∞Parade Games subsidiary company on May 9. The new company's main focus is the production and promotion of the Senran Kagura series, but it also aims to create "next generation" IP. Kenichirō Takaki, who previously established the Honey∞Parade Games studio within Marvelous, now serves as representative director for the new company.

Marvelous and Honey∞Parade Games announced four other new Senran Kagura games, as well as a second season of the Senran Kagura television anime series, earlier this month.
