Wix Website Builder Buys Art Community Website DeviantArt

The Wix.com website builder company announced that it has acquired the art and design community website DeviantArt as of Wednesday. Wix purchased DeviantArt for US$36 million in cash, including US$3 million of assumed liabilities.
According to Wix, DeviantArt will continue to operate as a separate site. DeviantArt users will be able to use Wix's web design tools for building an online presence and business, and Wix users will have access to DeviantArt's art and artists for website building. Wix also plans to invest in DeviantArt's desktop and mobile apps.
DeviantArt has more than 40 million registered users and hosts about 325 million pieces of art. DeviantArt's CEO and co-founder Angelo Sotira and other DeviantArt employees will join the Wix management team and continue to operate out of Los Angeles.
