It's not low at all. people usually buy one version of these games and you have to remember that Pokemon is exclusive to one platform.

Pokemon is the 2nd best selling video game franchise after Mario

If my math serves me right, then that's an average of 8 million copies per game. Impressive.

Apparently Red/Blue/Yellow makes up 46 of that 200 million.

And I've bought 15 of those! (Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, Black 2, Y, Omega Ruby, and Blue again on my 3DS, and soon: Sun for sure) Not bad for one person! I even still have the boxes for them all!

Regarding people buying only one version: I am pretty sure that's the case, as I've seen at least one example of someone trying to inflate sales: I remember a GameStop manager who screwed around with the stylus promotion for pre-ordering Pokémon Diamond and Pearl: The idea is you'd get the Dialga stylus for Diamond and Palkia for Pearl, but he refused to give them out unless you pre-ordered both versions, then you'd get to pick one. When he was called out because the GameStop flyer mentions you get the box legendary depending on the version (and did not have an "at participating locations" clause), he refused to see it, got really mad, and walked out of the store for a half hour.

Pokémon is definitely Nintendo's second-biggest earner. But it depends on what you'd define as a "video game." If mobile gaming counts, then the Angry Birds franchise is the best-selling video game series of all time, with Super Mario at 2nd and Pokémon at 3rd.

Do you mean to suggest there is a deficit somewhere? A MISSINGNO, perhaps?

The funny thing about Pokémon is that I got addicted to it as an adult. ^^
