^ Yeah, what is the deal with that? It's like, "I like the story of this manga but I think it would be better suited to a format without all the exciting drawings with words in bubbles pointing to the mouths."

I suppose if it's new stories not directly taken from the manga, it kind of makes sense. Like that one Ah My Goddess! novel written by Yumi Touma (the voice of Urd).

I've got -- come to think of it, I think it's on my floor right now under a pile of dirty washing -- the tokyopop translation of the love hina ln written by the love hina anime script-writer.

Not recommended. At least, the bits I read.

But... same reason as any other media adaption; if there's a market that pays the cost of making then it's worth doing, and it seems like prose can be had pretty cheaply in japan. Lower cost of living? "more streamlined"[1] editorial practices that reduce the time it takes authors to produce material deemed publishable?

[1] By which I mean, "any respectable western publisher would have sent Index LN4 for a complete re-write".
