It seems pretty chaste, considering many other anime women.

Also, isn't "pearl diving" a euphemism for...?

*Looks at actual image* Laughing If their upset by the fictional character than they should make the next promotional image more non-fiction in the art style of Ping Pong the Animation with a buttery face Asian woman in that outfit as a proper F U.

Is this another case of extreme feminism/being PC?

My initial thought was "wow, that Iga mascot character looks ridiculous", but then I realized that the first time I ever heard of Iga was in Basilisk, and she looks WAY less crazy than any of the Iga women in that show, sooo... okay, I guess.

I hope there's eventually a TV special where all of these moe regional mascots get together with Conan Edogawa and solve crimes, or something.

Japan hasn't really gotten to the point where their country's feminists can afford to devote their time to something like this... they're much more concerned with making it illegal to rape your wife over there.

I'm stuck on the fact that they're calling her boobs "pronounced." She looks pretty averagely proportioned, and if I weren't as overweight, I'd probably match those proportions myself. Just goes to show you the difference in Eastern and Western sensibilities.

This is really just extremist, aren't we getting a little too sensitive over nothing?

So the attention from the G7 is all they're worried about? It'll be the same thing with the Olympics I'll bet:

"The westerners are coming? Quick, hide the moé!"

Yeah, I'm willing to bet that we're going to see more and more instances of this the closer we get to the Olympics.

They've got every right not to want this moeblob to represent their entire life's career. Of course, the company isn't going to listen to them, because this isn't really about pearl divers. it's about Shima wanting tourism.

Well, in the company's defense, this could raise more interest in pearl diving and they have the vessel for that.

I say let the free market dictate things not them, and the free market is saying more yay to the idea than nah, so they have to deal with it. Catering to feelings like this is unnecessary, the mascot does not violate human rights or anything else of that level of importance.

Well, considering that Megu's Twitter and Facebook accounts has, as of now, nearly 2,870 followers combined, I don't see her going away any time soon, other than her current outfit.

Besides, I don't see how Megu-chan's appearance is offensive in any way. Confused Since when is sporting an attractive look a bad thing?

Then again, with the 2020 Olympics slowly but surely drawing near, I think there will be more moments like this occurring...

If she was a real Japanese woman, those would be huge.

I figured that a number of other cities in Japan have cute-girl mascots too and there isn't this kind of uproar. Could this be solved by changing this mascot's story such that she doesn't actually dive for pearls but is a spokeswoman instead?
