As an AOL (highspeed) member I only hope that there won't be any annoying "You've got Manga!" ads Laughing !

Stuff like those pop up in AIM too, so I pray it doesn't happen.

The average dialup AOL user isn't really a person who knows about things like Manga or anime, let alone how to actually use a computer.

If you must know, the main reason why I still use AOL is because all of my freinds and contacts know my AOL e-mail address so changing it would create problems.
By the way, I use 'AOL Highspeed Cable', which is basically the same thing as 'RoadRunner'.

This is pure nonsense. Not all people can afford high speed connection and it has nothing to do with what their knowledge of anime or manga (and even if it did, it would've not made ads any less annoying). Plus, nowadays most AOL users use cable connection.

Using AOL for your web front-end on cable or any broadband connection makes no sense. There is no need for extra software when you have an always on connection (like I do - Cox HSI, 1Mbps connection - The area of Cox I am in won't be getting the speed increase to 4Mbps for quite a while. Sad )

Don't use AOL's default browser. Use Mozilla, or Mozilla Firefox. Much better, it worked for me!(used to use SBC's browser).

Trillian is bad to me. From first hand experience. Plus, AIM is one of the only im clients I use. I don't need excess program. =/

'AOL 9.0' is not just a browser. It is part of the service (which is also the biggest problem with AOL). However, I always use 'Internet Explorer' as my browser and don't bother with AOL (unless I want some "exclusive" content Wink ).

I am aware of that. In fact, AOL integrates Internet Explorer into its software. I used Compuserve 2000 and AOL for a time when I first started on the net in 2000.

Hmm... AOL users do have a bad rap. Some of the mirc channels I frequent actually have AOL users blocked.

Even though I know some AOL users are anime and manga fans (me back in 1995 when AOL was virtually the only internet connection in small towns), but I wouldn't say there's a lot of them now. Mostly, AOL users tend to be people that don't know how to work the internet. (I said most as I know some that refuse to drop AOL and are very good at comps.) I wouldn't think AOL would pick up something like this. I think it's them trying to be "hip".

But AOL's version of IE isn't as functional as the standard
version. Once I got a cable connection, I quickly learned to stop using AOL.

<.< you can have aim without aol

i'm biased against aol

but all in all, this advertising campaign sounds really nice for the anime community. I mean c'mon no matter how much we hate (or at least I do) McDonalds, if they advertised cartoon network or the anime network, who are we to complain at the surge of growth?

How does one find any relation between a person's choice of ISP (or lack of choice in many cases) and their preference in entertainment?

Nit-Pick: mIRC is not IRC. mIRC is a popular shareware (i.e. you have to actually pay for it after 30 days!) IRC _client_. Other IRC clients are available, such as X-Chat and our own PJIRC Java client.

mIRC-X also happens to the name of a now-defunct network, but AFAIK had no affiliation to the mIRC IRC client itself.
