Aside from some odd pictures, glad to see you're having a fun time in Japan.

That High School DxD billboard was unexpected. At first glance it was hard to tell why Rias's chest looked so odd, and then I noticed that her breasts actually extended out from the sign.
The section about figures (especially the low-priced ones) pretty much confirmed that I would need to have one of my friends go along with me just to make sure somebody reminded me that I would need to save some money for food. Also, I'm pleased that the maid cafe experience was a good one. Obviously, anime can present some pretty distorted perspectives on things like that, so it was nice to read about one that seems to have lived up to expectations. |

This series of articles is very entertaining and informative, and a lot of fun to read.
Thank you. That maid cafe seems a lot like Maid Latte in Maid Sama! So that anime must have given a decent portrayal of at least some maid cafes. |

Ah, reminds me of the trips I took to Akiba on my own during my stay in Japan... Just a single visit to Animate's CD-department cost me about 17 000 yen. To repeat what I said then when writing about that incident on my Facebook, "I could have sworn my wallet was screaming out in agony by the time I left." Also this article just generally got me really nostalgic about said Japan-stay. I mean that has been happening a lot lately to the point where I'm seriously considering applying for a second exchange study there, but seeing all these pictures from places I've actually visited, recounting experiences rather similar to my own (though I don't remember what the latest big thing in Japan was at the time... It was in like, Summer 2013, so... Sword Art Online maybe?) just really drove said nostalgia home for me much stronger than it usually tends to be. |

The massive variety of ema looks overwhelmingly fantastic!
From the looks of it, the cute animal-inspired ice cream from MaiDream must taste really great! |

I've been to Japan twice so far... and strangely both times I did Akihabara last. The first time was with my mom, I had to practically to take go.
The second time was with my friends... but unlike the first time we were all set to go... no the reason why it was the last day was that my friend booked the first three days to other things (Disney Parks and a trip to Ishinomaki) and since I needed a rest day (I'm disabled) we has the second to last day or the last day left... turns out the last day was Sunday so we chose that... totally worth it! |

I've really been enjoying Bamboo's travelogue and pix but my personal highlight so far? The fact that you can order a cocktail called LOVE REAMIN' in a maid cafe. A pretty close second?

That DxD Born sign is weirder to see in person. I think if you stood at the right angle it would look okay, but that was not most angles you could be looking at it. Not sure how hardcore Bamboo is about Akiba (doesn't look very), but I recommend the Characro cafes they're doing if anyone ever want to check out some cool anime foods/drinks besides the mediocre stuff from Maidreaming. Currently it's Macross Frontier, Tiger&Bunny and IM@S. http://www.namco.co.jp/characro/ |

Oh, it's "Born"? I thought it said "B or N," like you had to choose between the letter "B" or the letter "N." ("Boobs or nipples"?)
Also, there were a lot of those ema boards with the picture of the goat, and a lot of them with the picture of the man feeding a rabbit. Is there something special or popular about those two? |

^ There are lots of goat emas right now because we're currently in the Year of the Wood Goat according to the Lunar New Year cycle. Not sure about the rabbit emas, though. Maybe it's a story affiliated with the shrine?
Emas drawn by mangaka and other well known artists are often retrieved by shrine staff and are later resold for funds to benefit the shrine. Occasionally, some of these make their way on to Japanese auctions sites for resale. Nice pictures again. I always thought Akiba was too hectic and enjoyed Nakano more, so I'm looking forward to seeing your review of it. |

I hope Love Live is still big by the time I finally make my pilgrimage. Of course K-ON was also huge awhile back but like most shows when they end it died because, unlike the western anime community who still clings to stuff like FMA 10 years on from its initial boom in popularity, the Japanese otaku tend to move on once a franchise's glory days are over leading to other shows getting the spotlight.
That being said, Love Live has a lot more potential to keep going as a franchise than K-ON even if the anime doesn't have much wiggle room with the senior's graduation AND a movie set after that. I want to go to a maid cafe at least once in my life if only out of pure curiosity (Definitely not one of those shady ones with connections to the yakuza) but from what I've heard it's super awkward unless you speak Japanese. Hopefully I can go there with a companion who speaks the language and doesn't mind me getting friendly with the maids or my obsession with 2D anime girls. |

A. Those were a lot of emas. I mean, wow...
B. That Rias Gremory sign, with breasts that pop out from the poster, no less! |

In Japanese mythology, there is a story where an aquatic creature (Some scholars think it was a shark and some scholars think it was an alligator) ripped a hare's fur from him and deity Ōkuninushi no Mikoto kindly told the hare about a remedy. The 'deity and the hare' ema are about it. Kanda Myōjin is also dedicated to Ōkuninushi no Mikoto. Animator-mangaka Yasuhiko Yoshikazu wrote and illustrated a manga in which he depicted Ōkuninushi as a real person in ancient Japan. |
