The sales from Rebirth 1 on steam must have been pretty good. There is a lot of Japanese hype happening on steam right now. Valkyria sold well, the visual novel explosion, ground zeroes in which thats the first pc metal gear solid game i can remember, and now hyperdimension. Hopefully more jrpgs come on over to steam because they will sell!

It made the top sellers list the week it came out, so it must have done great! Unfortunately it also drew a lot of racist and anti-Japanese comments from some games media personalities like the guy who did Borderlands who made a (now deleted) tweet how PC gaming is dead because "pedocrap" is outselling amazing titles like Borderlands and Life is Strange. Ever since VNs started appearing on Steam you're seeing a lot more racism pop up from certain sites and people.

Wow thats crazy! I did not even know. I bought both of the games, Life is Strange and Hyperdimension and i enjoyed them both. Some Americans are just ignorant. Think they know everything and stuff. If western games weren't so predatory with DLC and pre-order bonuses, then they would possibly sell more. You have to be so careful with your purchase when it comes to western games now a days. Just my opinion.

Just wish they'd do Linux or Mac versions. Steam is made to be cross-platform and a lot of vendors don't bother to take advantage of it.

For the most part they are very cheaply done ports, with a lot of bugs. So the likelihood of Linux or Mac versions is pretty low. Neptunia is pretty decently ported actually, although it has a fair share of bugs in the settings menu. Final Fantasy XIII was bad, Deadly Premonition was awful, as were the Dark Souls games. The ports are slowly improving, but given the amount of trouble with them I would actually prefer not to have Linux or Mac versions cause they would likely be godawful.

Still going actually, it is just missing the front page in 11th position at the moment. Given lifetime sales for Ys Origin is a few hundred thousand copies on Steam and that didn't get quite so high on the top sellers, I think it safe to say Neptunia is going to do very well.

What was the gist of the racist comments, lostrune?

Anthony Burch keeps outdoing himself.
Neptunia Rebirth1 was kinda a pleasant surprise. I mean the plot is a joke, but the dialogues can be kinda amusing at times due to references and breaking the fourth wall. Most importantly, the gameplay is still fun after 20 hours of playing, so that's a good thing. I did make the mistake of using DLC characters, mainly because of KanaHana and Yuuki Aoi, and it's a big mistake. Peashy and Plutie are too OP and make the game too easy.
So I'm looking forward to more Neptunia on the PC. Of course, I'd love to see ports of some better RPGs, but this one is still better than nothing. As long as it's not crap like Agarest War or Akiba's Trip.

Not surprising. The ports for those games are afterthoughts and I'm not sure if it's even the original company doing them instead of the ports being farmed out to another studio since Japan doesn't focus on PC gaming much, let alone the Steam platform.
Just as well for me, as a collector I hate digital-only games. I just get them for the Vita, or whatever the original system they were designed for was.

Probably your standard "oh Japan is so backwards" comments you see.

We live in an era that racism has been heavily repressed, but by no means is it anywhere near 'dead'. In fact in many ways it is worse than ever. Repression generally makes peoples opinions stronger unfortunately.

The worst ports have actually been those done 'inhouse'. Dark Souls games and Deadly Premonition in particular. These companies have little to no experience with the platform. The best case scenario is actually to 'farm' the game off to a company that actually knows the platform. The Agarest games were decently ported done by Ghostlight. XSeed also did a great job porting Legend of Heroes. Unclear whether Neptunia is inhouse or not.

I'm pretty sure Neptunia is in house. The devs are actually active on the Steam forums.

I have Rebirth1 on Vita and it's great. I hope these games do well on PC and that Victory II gets ported as well.

And yet another glorious Nep game is coming to PC. Though I think Re;Birth3 should have come out first. Anyway, another great news for PC gamers who want more Neps.
The PC version of Re;Birth1 was a decent port. Despite lots of crashes and poor controls, it did fix the frame rate issues that the Vita had, making the game run really smooth. I am glad that IFI is fixing the other issues. And it amazed me that just a few hours after its release, it was ranked 3rd in the Top Sellers list, just behind Dying Light and Grand Theft Auto V.

I'm still sticking to my Vita for the time being. Although I'm hoping V II will get ported because I sure as hell am not buying a PS4 any time soon. I already have an XBONE for the cross platform games, Persona 5 is going to be on the PS3 and what little exclusives I'm interested in are at least a year away so there's basically no point in getting it now.
