I always loved Jupiter the best. She had the most talent.

You mean her fingers?
Yeah, I was looking at my own fingers, and I think that it can't bend that way...lol. Also, I guess she doesn't have a butt either, because her legs just go up there D: But other than that, it's still pretty good looking. |

I love how tough Jupiter looks in that picture, but, seriously, her right hand looks mangled. It seems that whoever is drawing the pictures of the Sailor Scouts has little sense of anatomy.

This is supposed to look like Takeuchi's manga, where characters all have strange anatomy. Don't expect Davinci...
Personally, I think it looks lovely. I have it pre-ordered, and I already have the soundtrack. ^^ |

Her forearm is larger than her upper arm and her tummy looks weird, too small for such a tall frame.

Make no mistake, I understand that the artwork is intended to look similar to that of Naoko's and we're certainly not expecting it to be "DaVinci Level..." I just think that the picture of Jupiter could've been at least a little better drawn, is all. |

Her fingers look busted. I at least expect joints to do what they're supposed to, even if anatomy is exaggerated. I'd say the same if this was a picture of Watanuki from xxxHoLiC.
I also noticed this. I'm surprised they don't have some butt shadow as a reference to her Classic transformation. |

This is an Anime forum, of course no one is expecting realistic human proportions or anatomy, but her fingers look legit broken. Human fingers just don't bend like that. Unlike Moon and Mercury's covers, which featured the girls in more natural and flowy poses, Mars and Jupiter's poses look strange and unnatural. I've tried to imitate what Makoto and Rei are doing with their arms and it's bloody awkward bordering painful

I am not that surprised, the absence of any butt in shoujo is akin to the lack of handsome male faces in shonen animes, it tries to avoid tingling any insecurities (or even inferiority complex) of the fanbase.
Even if this is anime, they do have to follow anatomy rules, no ands ifs and specially butts We know anatomy can be exaggerated to have a comical or erotic effect, but I cannot see any reason to increase forearm ratio length, decrease tummy size or display a broken hand, if someone has any theories beyond "because Takeuchi said so" I would like to hear them. I know this is no daVinci, but neither it is El Greco Last edited by mangamuscle on Tue Dec 30, 2014 2:03 pm; edited 1 time in total |

To be fair, the anime itself is poorly drawn and off-model half the time. The last episode alone had Tuxedo Mask's arm being elongated or stunted depending on the camera angle. The Blu-ray covers have to be badly drawn too, or else it's false advertising!

Okay, I can't help but laugh at those fingers. I guess we'll see our release in late 2015.

A little bit off-topic, but what are you even talking about? Shonen anime is CROWDED with handsome men. Think of Bleach, Attack on Titan, Tiger & Bunny, Magi, Fairy Tail, Hitman Reborn, and let's not even bring up sports anime (which are also targeted at the shonen demographic). I'd take almost any of the bishonens in any of those series over the hottest run-of-the-mill handsome/assholish shojo manga ikemen any day |

Modified original post to clarify. What I mean to say that in shonen there are few model-class male faces (if you open Weekly Shōnen Sunday on a random page, chances are you will not see one). Meanwhile if you grab any shoujo manga and open it in a random page, you can be certain that there will a lack of female curves (well endowed females in shoujo are drawn just like "skinny" ones in shonen) and any male shown can be as an ikemen due to his good looks. As you pointed out, there is a clear imbalance, (if you cherry pick) female readers can find model-class attractive men in shonen manga, the opposite is rarely true (at least I cannot remember one). |

I'm a guy and I'll agree shoujo generally has far less appealing females to me than other types of series. The art styles definitely tend to be more skinny and focus on being beautiful and sparkly. Crystal is a great example. The girls in the original anime were a lot curvier and filled out and in Crystal they desperately need a burger or two to fill out those bones. Just compare this Jupiter's lack of butt and legs to her classic transformation scene.
