If Kickstarter has a problem with the hug pillows being inappropriate... I wonder if they're aware Grisaia is a porn game.

Well... in fairness, they're bringing over the all-ages version. I don't think they'll be worried about the Japanese original, since it isn't on the site. |

For the moment, the Sekai Project Kickstarter only include the all ages port based on the Vita version (despite originally having the prefundia preview include both versions). It appears they are trying to work out a deal so that backers can get an uncut version either free or at a discount, but that is in Frontwing's hands and won't be finalized until January. They do intend to separate release the uncut release under a different label after the all ages release regardless of if a deal can be worked out or not for backers, but for now it has no connection to the Kickstarter. |

How disappointing Kickstarter has enough initiative to go after something like this but not Kickstarters which are actual scams, or Kickstarters which ended over a year ago but have yet to deliver their promises.
If they're going to play that way, could they not just loop hole it and say the pledge tier will be for a ticket, and you can exchange the ticket for a 'special item' on the official website's shop? -Stuart Smith |

They're releasing both an all ages version and an adult version, though. |

Now that is just annoying, since Sekai Project self-censored the breasts and crotchs that weren't "age appropriate", and made it very clear that those are rewards for adults backers only.
I hope it will be resolved with as little change as possible. |

Is it really violating their policy? They don't want to be regarded as a porn site among web filters.

The usual crap that companies pull off when something gets a lot of media attention, they check it out to see why it is so popular and see something they don't like and jump on it.
Who's betting that if a project was asking for 5 grand and offered something similar it would slip past their radar without any problems. |

It's pretty nonsensical for Kickstarter to throw a fit over some dakimakura when they have other more serious targets to go after (inactive campaigns, scam artists, etc.)...
Besides, I don't think they're controversial enough for them to be removed, anyway... |

Yeah that's right. Japanese publishers themselves refers to it as all-ages. Also, CERO-D is not equivalent to M in the US.
Yes Prohibited Items
Of course, they don't define what "porn" is either. But this all-ages version is not porn, nor is the dakimakura reward, even if risque (or nude). However they've also put in the rule about prohibiting anything "offensive" which gives them A LOT of leeway for everything else. |

In terms of "pornographic content," Kickstarter is free to set their own policies. The issue in this case is that they have done so really inconsistently:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ironspike/smut-peddler-2014-ladyporn-conquers-earth This project took in nearly 200,000 dollars for something for porn. Straight-up porn. It's comic-book porn, but it's still porn. In their FAQs, they state the following:
There have been other projects with explicit dakimakura, even: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1500482054/sunrider/posts/764570[/quote] |

Actually they called it "porn" but Kickstarter considers it erotic art. There are have been other projects that have been in the erotic artbook category too. Smut Peddler is a continuation of a title that was "sex-positive, female-friendly erotic comics from the best and the brightest in the independent small press publishing world," The original book publishers and contributing artists themselves don't even treat it porn even though that word is casually thrown around. What seems to matter most is the level of offensiveness, which is stated explicitly in their rules. Smut Peddler hits all the social progressive checkboxes, so that contributed to its acceptability. In Grisaia's case, it's certainly not porn, nor is the dakimakura porn, even if it depicts nudity (which is not considered porn, even if live action). However, the fact that it's of a student could be the problem. Again, offensiveness or social acceptability.
The characters on the dakimakura are all of indeterminate age and are all space pilots. More importantly, it was only revealed in an update 2 months after it was funded, so there's nothing Kickstarter could have done. Last edited by configspace on Sat Dec 20, 2014 1:10 pm; edited 1 time in total |
