I wonder if he'll write Godzilla into this one...

Was this guy never a child?

I haven't seen the movie, but I have read enough buzz. I'm not paying theater prices if the proper monster-to-human-drama ratio has been inverted.

I'm just glad we got "Final Wars."

It was great to see the monster bits on screen when they actually happened. It's not like Hollywood has the excuse of super low budgets like Toho had in the 60s and 70s, where they focus too much on human bullshit no one cares to remember later. The monsters here had more charisma than the humans, that's for true, and you're left at some points during the film asking "why am I watching this character who is completely unimportant do absolutely nothing? To try and give the main character some motivation?" Still, the film is by no means bad, just has some major characterization flaws.

I just rewatched the film on Blu-Ray yesterday. I don't see the problems that are being talked about. You get all the Kaiju screen time you could ask for and the people do their work to give you a good story, which amazingly much of the audience wants to have as part of the film.

Godzilla has never been just about a huge creature, there is always something at a human level happening. Even if it is just something silly like many of the TOHO popcorn matinee films of old, or something much more serious like in the first film and some of the others such as this latest one.

I know that there are those that won't see it this way, but I enjoyed this film and am looking forward to the next on in 2018.

My $.02 worth.

I loved it too, especially, when they gave me the payoff I was waiting for and wondering if they were going to do it. No more overgrown lizards for Godzilla anymore.

Four years is a long time, but I guess they wanted the same screenwriter, who showed he knew how to make it work.

I was pissed mostly about the cutaways, how they would build it up and then right as gozilla is about to start fighting they cut away, and then even worse they troll us with it in the background in a news report.

plus apparently the blu-ray conversion was terrible and is super dark compared to the theater version. (i could barely see what was going on half the time)

I didn't see the theater version, so I can't compare the two. But I had no problem with the lighting on the BD. Haven't checked out the 3D yet to see if it is any darker.

Will Godzilla have more actual focus this time? The movie focuses so much on Kick-Ass and the M.U.T.O.s that the main titled character that everyone wanted to see feels like an afterthought in his own movie.

I just hope that Gareth Edwards doesn't rehash himself again with what he did in the first film in the frequently annoying cutaways and focusing on the bland boring humans and the M.U.T.O.s that no one cares about.

Okay Edwards, you've done your poorly done Jaws homage and now, when the sequel comes out in 2018, quit holding him back and show him a whole lot more this time because there are plenty of Godzilla fans who felt disappointed by this movie but not to the extent of the Roland Emmerich version though.

Think it's more "Okay, Edwards, GZ is avenged now--He eats nuclear power instead of tuna, and we have Dr. Serizawa back instead of Funny Greek Name Guy. The ponderous epic touches have done their job, time to move on now and make a real GZ movie."
But the fact that he believes it needs a "Tiffany" version, suggests he's snubbing the "goofy" 60's version like everyone else, and trying too hard to overcompensate. That does seem to be a problem lately at Legendary Pictures.

(Just watching it now, on PSN 3D, and I have to admit feeling a great sense of relief after Bryan Cranston's character died...)
