This is why it is good to have people looking out for bootleg merchandise at conventions.

If these copyright proprietors decide one day to come down to the big Brazil anime-related events, they'll have a field day.

I wouldn't be surprised in anime companies have employees go to anime conventions with pre-printed lawsuit paperwork.

Yes, though, I would be a hypocrite to tell the con that a vendor is selling bootleg items since I frequent fansub streaming sites.
This is something I will agree with AoA on.

They should check out the anime/Japanese pop culture store in Bend, OR. Bootlegs out the rear in mixed in with authentic merch.

Bootleg plushies, pins, folders, keychains, posters, wall scrolls, etc. are often a common sight at the anime conventions and stores I've been to. For cons it's kind of a hard thing to weed out unless you check everything a vendor has, and as this SAO case demonstrates, you might need extensive knowledge of the product.*
*Well, except the typo. Outside of some cases of Engrish on Japanese products and a mistake on domestic releases, those are usually a dead giveaway. But then again, outside of washing it, how many people read the tag on a plushie?

Actually yeah this would be a first. Bootlegging stinks and especially at cons, where you expect the goods to be all authentic. I am glad that Pokemon Center is re-opening online. Maybe now more people would realize that those $5 Amazon/eBay plush are fishy at that price...
Still, using the logo of an American company of all things is just asking for a lawsuit.

Bootlegging American made merchandise just seems... weird. I don't think most anime merchandise (e.g. plushies, keychains) buyers know or care enough to recognize a bootleg, so why risk a lawsuit, in addition to a cease-and-desist of selling their merchandise, by copying Great Eastern's logo?

Actually most of the cheap Pokemon Center plush aren't really bootlegs. My boyfriend bought a whole bunch of them for me not knowing better, and they're "official"...Pikachu's tail is sewn on backwards, and Charizard had a hole in his back where he was stuffed (which I fixed easily). Basically, they're rejects from manufacturing, though I couldn't find anything obviously wrong with any of the others. I'm sure they were still illegally obtained, though.
But I'm also very excited about the US Pokemon Center store, so that now I don't have to resort to getting manufacturer errors for my Pokemon plush fix.

Be aware that the US Pokemon Centers have raised their prices, and small plush are now $12-13. I was really disappointed when I saw that. I thought they were a bit high at $10.

Don't give them any ideas. They're going to shut down every place they can and then we'll have NO anime shops.

Maybe you should convince them to pull all the bootlegs before a licensed distributor decides to sue?

American what?
Great Eastern doesn't make anything. It imports its goods from China.

Everybody imports their goods from China. Did you mean to say they don't design anything?
