Contrary to Zac's Twitter advice, The Last Guardian is still my most anticipated title.

...

...just like it's been for the past 7 goddamn years. Sad

It's sad to see that a game has been in development, for so long, that we've seen a whole console generation come and go in that time...

Glad that Sony could clear up the confusion but at this point, why bother? It's been seven years and very little has been released since it started. Either Sony needs to kick Team Ico in the ass so they can finish, or finally cancel it. At least Duke Nukem Forever and Final Fantasy XV (Versus XIII) had more to show for it's developmental time...

I don't see any proof that it's been cancelled, but I also don't see any proof that any progress has been made in making it.

Damn, what the hell is taking them so long to get this thing done? It's been years now. The damn director has left but they assured us that it's still going to happen. Not to mention we've had our copy on order SINCE THAT TIME. Between this title and FFXV aka FF vs XIII were the 2 most anticipated games. But I'll say one thing, they'll be released before Cameron releases Battle Angel.

TGS and Jump Fiesta, brahs. Don't worry 'bout it. Sony's just savin' the Japanese stuff for Japanese conventions where it will be more appreciated. Already confirmed a lot of Japanese PS4 stuff will be at TGS.

Yeah westerners don't appreciate FF and Team Ico games.

wait, haven't they sold more here? Wait, haven't they been listed by many western publications as the most wanted games?

And last year, Western games dominated TGS 2013.

That's weird, I saw handheld booths dominate most of the floor last year. God Eater 2 seemed to be considered the biggest thing from what I remember, or at least one of. Do you have a source on your claim that says different?

I had previously mentioned it last year:

  • Even this week's Tokyo Game Show seems to be taken over by Western-style games (Nintendo's absence notwithstanding) since there's the focus on the next-gen consoles PS4 and XB1, where there's yet not much Japanese presence. Though it makes sense that J-developers would take time due to not having the budgets and manpower that W-developers have, plus Japan being dominated by handhelds, there's less incentive for them to produce games that use next-gen power.

Among J-developers, Square-Enix's TGS booth was atypically scaled down and, while also showing FF13 and Dragon Quest X, also largely showed Call of Duty: Ghosts. Else, mid-tier J-RPGs were few and far between. Instead, the most talked about J-games courtesy of Capcom's Deep Down and Sony with Gran Turismo. Surprisingly, what actually helped out were the better presence of indie developers and, believe it or not, GREE the mobile gaming company had a big booth.

Meanwhile, great presence there were for Metal Gear Solid, GTA5 even though it's technically out, and Battlefield 4 with full-blown 16-on-16 network multiplayer:

But the star of TGS 2013 was undoubtedly --surprise surprise-- mecha-filled Titanfall. Even though it's still in beta, word-of-mouth made its Day-2 wait-time spike even longer than Day-1. Long lines yet good responses.

Fortunately the director's still working there as a contracted employee so while he's not part of the studio anymore atleast he's still there supposedly seeing it through.

I kind of hope that once they finally finish this (ARGH!) they can professionally look at what happened and what caused it and maybe figure out a way to go forward, it would be a shame to break the team up if what happened was tied to a problem that doesn't exist going forward like the PS3 being unique and difficult (let alone for a small Japanese team) or something else avoidable in the future now that PS4 is easier to work with and has more traditional hardware and Japan Studio has a new head since several years ago (that Santa Monica guy).

Either way, Japan Studio as a whole needs to contribute more.
