Aw well, I still liked the Buu arc.

Sorry Mr. Toriyama, but I'll take Sean Schemmel as Goku over that annoying hag any day of the week

Well, Toriyama sure dashed some cold water on the subject of continuing Dragon Ball Z with that remark about him being tired of drawing violent battles.

I only hope the fans will be mature enough to get the message.

He may be tired of that but it still didn't stop him from creating Battle of Gods.

Voice actress Shino Kakinuma (Sailor Moon's Naru Osaka, Kemonozume's Rie Kakinoki) will be replacing Yuko Minaguchi (Sailor Moon's Hotaru/Sailor Saturn, Kanon's Akiko Minase) in the role of Videl, as Minaguchi is still on hiatus.

Probably won't be on hiatus much longer. At her panel at Anime Boston, she mentioned that she'll be going back to Japan in a month. Still, obviously too late to get in on the dubbing of this though.

I think Battle of Gods was more of the exception and not the rule.

Besides, Toriyama's work to me is more about his imagination and suggestive silliness than badass butt beatings. It's what really defines him as a mangaka.

I agree loved his animal people from early Dragon Ball and his designs for Dragon Quest

Yeah well it always seemed that way. The Buu saga was always boring and felt like it was suffering from lack of imagination. It was long and drawn out, yet never really showing anything exciting. Just more and more of the same.

DB felt like it really ended at the Cell saga and it really should have. Would have been a perfect ending. The Buu saga just felt like a lazy cash grab

It was pretty easy to tell. All the fights, at least in the manga, felt rushed like he was trying to just get it done and over with. This was the part of the series where the anime filler actually helped. Still the Kid Buu fight is one of my favorites and Vegeta settling his rivalry with Goku really made the saga.

I gave up on DBZ when the Buu saga was airing, I think it killed my enjoyment of anime for a while back then. Recently, I've gone through all of Dragon Ball and found the best parts of the show are the character interactions and comedy, not the powerlevel shounen fighting shitfest it becomes later. Maybe I should check out Dr. Slump, but it has no Toriyama babes in it, something I wish he had done more with in DB.

I'm not that big nor knowlegable on DBZ, but I will say I find this somewhat intersting. Every now and then I get the feeling that mangaka view battle manga as something they'd like to try at least once but then do some other stuff. In the case of Toriyama while I haven't really been that motivated to get into Z I have been interesting in Dragon Ball and I've liked what I've read of Dr. Slump.

I happen to find the Buu Saga to be my favourite actually, but what Toriyama needs to do is move on from Dragon Ball, go cold turkey on it and return to his pure comedic routes. Dragon Ball is the umpteenth-beaten dead horse, and we keep getting more pointless spinoffs and crossovers when the series' longevity is still holding up with older content that still hasn't entirely been released properly yet sadly. The anime franchise has always been mired with problems, but a day will come when it is finally perfected on home media, and even then there will probably improved definition updates in later years, so we don't need any more content to beef it up; the ship has sailed and the DB story is complete Toriyama, just let it go. Take the reins of that growing apathy with excessive fighting in manga and do something fun like Dr. Slump again.

He did, wasn't it Jaco the Galactic Patrolman? Besides I thought he was retired.

Not really I think, but Jaco is in the same universe as Dragon Ball too. Anime cry
