You were absolutely right about it being the start of a worrying trend. It only got worse from here, the newer people on the anime team don't really get One Piece at all. Stretches of drawn out scenes everywhere and it jsut throws off the impact of things that happen because you just want them to get on with it. The manga is really fast paced so its really jarring when watching the show use the same material, especially when you can't help but wonder why they can't figure out ways to stretch out the episode without resorting to just having stareoffs or stupid things like that when the old team used to be able to.

They just flatout ruin scenes in One Piece now such asspoiler[ Fishman Island where they draw out the fights with Luffy and Zoro. The whole goddamn point is that they were so beyond these guys in terms of strength that they barely mattered and showed just how far they'd come, but instead they draw out the fights just to make the fight feel "epic". Or making Sanji ten times more perverted than he actually is to the point it gets creepy rather than being funny like it used to be or any number of complaints I have with the anime team as it moves on from this point ]. It really bothers me because the guy you mentioned, he really got the what the series was about and he made the most of it.

at least we know who's luffy's family is like. though i was kinda hoping he was Gol d Roger's dad , or related to him in some way considering the way those side characters keep saying on how much luffy reminds them of roger of the way he acts.

It's funny you mention the director, because while I mostly ignore the current episodes, I've never really had a problem re-watching earlier episodes of he series especially the east blue and alabasta saga. I don't know but there was a certian charm to those episodes to me. Even though I haven't fully seen thriller bark yet (though so far in I'm more puzzled as to why it's hated so much) but I'm VERY well aware of how the pacing is in the Seabody, impel down and DEFINITELY the whitebeard war arcs. There are few gold nuggets here and there but over all the pace is probably the slowest I've ever seen for ANYTHING. I might wind up getting a few more sets and I'll definitely be getting any films as they are released but its around here where I wave good-bye to the one piece anime.

i wouldnt do that. sure thriller bark felt more like a filler arc, as well as the start of the seabody arc, but their still funny archs nevertheless. though yea, the main archs dub pursuits will be seeking are the impel down and paramount war archs.

This is the last truly great anime season of one piece

After this they started to stretch out the episodes eventually ending up with what we now have as 1 chapter per episode.

It gets truly horrendous during the spoiler[war, you see luffy running towards the scaffold.. and its only like a couple hundred feet. But he's stuck running toward it for like 15 episodes.]

The story development stage of any anime is more interesting than any part of the later sagas, this is true for most of the anime and this is also the same for one piece.
