Glad to see ADV in mainstream news, but reading some of that article really irritated me. To tell the truth, I fell in love with Anime because it was different and because it was something that had no mainstream appeal. Can't hate though because the more people watchin Anime and (sarcasm) reading anime (end sarcasm) means more Anime and Manga (and Manhua) titles will make it here overseas. Any thoughts.

Certainly. I think it's equally as sophmoric and elitist to only pursue things that aren't mainstream as it is to try to stay with the "in-crowd". Simply put, enjoy what you enjoy, mainstream or not. I could care less that it goes mainstream other than more titles get released here now, and it's all the harder on my wallet because of it.

There is always the talk of individualism, but how can you truly be an individual if you seek things based a standard that is really effective only at promoting elitism? I'm glad that we have the variety now that it is more popular. It gives me more to enjoy.

To tell the truth I'm happy with America's anime/manga industry as a whole.

They basically said the live-action EVA movie will be made.

I could just imagine the backlash from groups if that movie retains 60% of what the series had.

[insert O'Reilly Factor Second Impact Segment pun here]

The grain of salt here is that ADV doesn't just sell products to the anime fandom niche; it also handles the DVD versions of a lot of the popular live-action sci-fi series, and it also sells the dub-only DVDs of a lot of the kiddy TV stuff (and I would not be at all surprised if it gets a certain percentage of sales of the merchandise of said series). The percentage I'd love to see is how much of that total the sale of the multilingual, intact anime DVDs to the anime fandom niche actually represents.

Also, I'm far from convinced that the live-action Evangelion will ever get out of pre-production... there's nothing in there I haven't seen before in that regards.

EDIT: In fact, the only real information about the live-action Eva in there is just Fred Patten's opinion.
