Unfortunately, overtly religious films like this almost never express the grandeur their producers intend. From various websites, I glean that the character, mecha and scene design in this show are somewhat bland. I suspect the story will turn out to have no purpose or plot except to expose poor Satoru and Alisa -- and the audience -- to lectures from various "historical figures" espousing the teachings of this particular revelation.

Lay Buddhist societies of the sort that produced "the Golden Laws" are an important feature of modern Japan. There are many such groups, each with its own miraculous tradition and teachings for happiness and enlightenment. The Reiyukai is one such group I know well. They have a spectacular temple in downtown Tokyo, which contains a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha carved from a thousand year old camphor tree. Another one of these societies, I forget the name, has a large sign in English on their building saying in effect, "Pray to our leader because he grants miracles." Can't get more direct about it than that, I guess...

I thought the Japanese banned cults after the AUM...Sounds like their answer to Scientology. Anyway, I'll give it a shot, cus of the production team. But this better not brainwash me to dispense sarin gas in my subway. =p

Edit: Anyway, I'm guessing it's just something to watch while on acid.

Actually, now that I've seen the trailer, it just comes off like a Japanese Carmen San Diego. Oh, and thumbs down for stealing the time machine from Chrono Trigger.

I will hazard a guess that it is a voyeurism of the other major world religions of ages, by those who have been indoctrinated in just one of them, in an attempt to expose plausible links between them in order to bolster their own. Sort of like looking at the reasons and manifestations of one's spiritual foundations. I believe Redcoffin said it was a Buddhist sect.

Basically, it's a re-interpretation of religious history through the viewpoint of this crazy buddhist sect. It tries to show that all great religious leaders were really from the same religion... It tries so hard that it's funny, sometimes Anime catgrin After I saw the movie I got a free copy of the book it's based on...It's some crazy stuf Wink. [/spoiler]

I know this is an OLD post, but I have a question about it. >_>

I saw this movie however many years ago in the theater, and it was horriable. But it was so bad, that it was one of the funnest things I've seen in a while.

Anyway, the main charter was the voice of Ash from pokemon, same voice. I really want to get my hands on it, I have some... plans for it. But I can't find any copies of it. Anyone know where I can find it, with the dub? I mean if they went though the trouble to dub it, why not release it on dvd?

Thanks!

Actually, in this case I love the dub. It the only reason I want the movie. If I could just get the sound from it that would be fine.

Also, I apologize if it seems like I am attacking dub fans, I really only have a strong personal preference for subs. I have no problem with people liking dubs, I don't don't stack "fanhood" on it. I used to liked dubs only as well, after all. (Got started on TV DBZ) The only time it even becomes a problem is at conventions, and most of the time I've already seen the shows in sub, so dub is just fine.

I don't know what anime it is but if the main character is voiced by Veronica Taylor then it has to be one of these ones. Look through them and you may find it.

Since you aren't adding to or talkign about the news post itself (your question has nothing to do with the showing in LA) it's better if you start a new thread in the anime forum.

We don't have a rule against "necroposting" here, but 95% of necroposting does get deleted or locked because it doesn't requrie or add to the original thread.
