Glad to know this is coming along. I curious to know what the final product looks like. Maybe this will inspire other creators to animate folk tales, since this is up Ghibli's alley and Miyazaki, is retiring, of so he says. But this looks good so far.

Does anyone know the name of the song which was playing in the video? It was beautiful. <3
EDIT: Found it! Inochi no Kioku by Kazumi Nikaido. |

Only thing I can say is "woah". The animation there was beautiful.

Is this the way the art/animation is actually going to be in the film? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it is certainly unusual.

Something different. That's Takahata for ya.

"My Neighbors the Yamadas" didn't exactly have a traditional animation look to it, either, so I'm not exactly surprised in this instance. |

Its cool to see a new film from Takahata for the first time in over a decade. Wasn't sure what the animation was going to look like until I saw that trailer. It's very artistic and dream like if I had to put it in words to describe. Makes me more than interested in seeing this film since I have seen all of his films including the ones that arent avalible in the US.

It's so beautiful it makes me shiver. Even just the screenshots alone.
I'm moved. |

It's certainly a change from the usual Ghibli trademark designs. I sometimes wish I could run through walls like that.

Stunning. The animation style reminds me a bit of 'Mononoke' (the series, not the Ghibli movie).

The art kind of reminds me of those storybook cartoons from way back when that weren't actually animated, they just panned and zoomed the entire time. Thankfully this is animated.

I thought more of the work from noted animators like Frederic Back in his Oscar-winning film "The Man Who Planted Trees". I was hoping we would see something more in this direction myself. |

The animation does look excellent. I'm still not completely convinced that Miyazaki is retiring for good. He said the same thing after Princess Mononoke, and we saw how that turned out.
