Finally getting Blu ray releases, eh. Would've loved to see the arcs/episodes with quality animation instead but this is a start, I suppose.

Considering the fact One Piece looks horrible and the fact that a portion of it was done on cels, I don't see why there's a point to have BDs of One Piece. It also never ends, so I don't see how this could last.

^preference of appearance.

Anyhow this doesn't sound so bad, given how popular One Piece is in Japan I'm sure it'll do alright (and even then there is a crap-ton of other merch to sustain itself) I just wonder if this at all means that if funimation ever reaches 'new world' will the series itself start getting BD releases since strong world definitely did.

One piece animation might not be the best but it is not horrible like u said it is (artstyle is subjective). and this BDs starts on episode 579 which is punk harzard arc, im sure that wasnt done on cels. im sure with OP popularity, some are bound to buy those BDs (and ure not one of them).

lets see, there are franchises that never ends (pokemon, yugioh, pretty cure, detective conan, etc) that have BDs, so why is it that OP cannot?

ure just hating and dont see a point in this bc ure not a fan. i dont see people complaining with different releases of DBZ for over 2-3 decades, now that is a franchise that never ends. i rather have new contents that never end than old contents that kept comingout in different formats.

OP fans in the US are waiting for these fyi.

You have some points, but those get OVA/Theatrical BDs, not series BDs, bar DBZ, which is getting a full BD release soon.

Actually all of the One Piece ever done by Toei has been digitally animated.

The only cel animtated One Piece that has ever been done is the very first animated project of it, an OVA by Production I.G.

That the first portion of it was done on cels and composed on film, I assume, is all the reason it should get a BD, and I'm not even remotely close to a Wan Piss fan. Though when it jumps to digital production, you're right, releasing on BD becomes kind of a crapshoot, then you'd just see upscaled digipaint. But if the entire series was like that, then BDs really are unnecessary because they might make the picture look worse than your player upscaling a DVD.

Though, the article mentions it's only for episodes that were likely above 480p, so it's not the same as an early 2000s upscale.

Wow. It's been DVD quality up until 207, now it's broadcast in HD. No upscaling. In fact 207 onwards are downscaled for DVD in America in Japan, even though both territories air it in HD...

So home releases are finally coming out in the original format, how the hell could that be considered a downgrade?

Sweet Blu rays, but. 4 episodes on a 25gig disc? So it would take about 153 BDs give or take and another 50 years time to release all these just up to the 613 range. People want to collect one piece and should be given a viable release.

Lets be real, this is novelty nothing serious.

I don't quite know what to say to that. Don't let English be the crutch for something you enjoy.
