I wasn't sure what to expect, but these profiles make it seem like it's going to be straightforward, unpretentious, dumb fun, and I mean the positive kind of "dumb". As in, "if you want philosophy or depth, go look somewhere else, this ain't it".

^ I don't think it's that similar. Cat was a humanoid descendent of Dave Lister's cat plus two million years of evolution, not an alien. The British pop culture character that is, in fact, an alien from Betelgeuse was Ford Prefect from Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

It's pretty cool that one of the three (so-far) primary characters is an inhuman alien, albeit in a form we can recognize and better empathize with (a cat). Wonder how crazy designs will get in this show... Redline's were pretty rad in a kinda gross way.
