Inb4 Index hate.

I think your reviews were very fair. Nice job; I only want to see Versailles more as a result.

I think railgun could have used a little more Komijo Toma. I have a soft spot for Mikoto and Toma's very typical anime-like interactions.

Considering who Kenshi lives with, it's no surprise what he can do. everyone has trained the guy and yet he is still considered the weakest member of the family

There are moments in the series when one can't help but wring their hands over the childishness of the spats between the nobles, but the lenses of history provide comfort with the knowledge that eventually, these people get their just desserts.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Popular sentiments radicalized the [French] Revolution significantly, culminating in the rise of Maximilien Robespierre and the Jacobins and virtual dictatorship by the Committee of Public Safety during the Reign of Terror from 1793 until 1794 during which between 16,000 and 40,000 people were killed.

I have not yet watched Rose of Versailles, so maybe some nobles deserved to be executed (I assume that is what "just desserts" means in the review). But I hope people do not romanticize the French Revolution. I am looking forward to the anime; for years I have heard that it is one of the classics.

I agree with the Railgun review. Maybe in some future arc Kuroko's background will be revealed and we'll understand her better. Right now she is just a very hard character to enjoy.

I remember some time ago reading an Animerica article about a Tenchi series and it was a constant stream of Eva jokes. I can't recall what the name of that series was but that was the only take away was that it was a parody of Eva.

Is this that series? I don't think it is because the photos I have seen don't look familiar. Can somebody help me with this?

I'm glad that Bamboo enjoyed the first part of Rose of Versailles; it's a great series, and only gets better as it goes on. The ending is particularly good, so I hope she finishes it.

Of course, there are parts of The Rose of Versailles that I found to be a little exhausting. I understand the importance of showing the little tiffs that the palace ladies got themselves into (like Marie and Madame du Barry's cat-and-mouse game of the former acknowledging the latter, or Madame de Polignac's scheming), and I understand that palace life was just that mundane and trivial, but as a viewer… my God. It was like watching Mean Girls, with poufy dresses, and there were a few moments where I about just had it with their nonsense. Luckily, there is no schadenfreude like that which is provided by the hindsight of history.

I normally can't stand such cat fights between women in shows, but in period pieces such as Rose of Versailles I'm a lot more forgiving (I even found it kind of interesting in Rose of Versailles). Lets face it position (usually obtained/kept by marriage) was everything to women back then. Just one wrong move and you could be ruined, it makes me really glad I wasn't born back then.

This is the first time I have seen Rose of Versailles and I'm loving it, I defiantly understand now why it is considered such a classic. I'm really looking forward to the next set coming out.

No, that would be Dual!, but they have common roots. Wink

If there was any more of Touma in Railgun, I would not have enjoyed it enough to import it (it wouldn't have been worth the cost of a domestic release, either). His dullness drags the show down, and he interrupts the story...

That was one of many things keeping me away from Funi's release.

I've seen and much enjoyed my first disc of Versailles, I'm just trying not to eat the whole thing before part 2 comes out! I have other things I can snack on in the meantime, like Patlabor right now. I am glad that the catiness of Marie vs du Berry seems to be over now though.

Touma is in like 4 episodes for no more than a few minutes each. The only thing dragging down Railgun are the lame and drab villains. I agree with the first guy, drop Index from the show and just have a bunch of Touma and Misaka interaction. Well in the non existant chance it ever gets that far, Misaka is more involved with Touma's side in the NT Volumes.

As far Geminar, its a nice show, personally I think it more accessible then Tenchi, so it leaves itself to draw in a few more fans without losing that Tenchi charm.

But don't worry I get that you [insult removed]. That is why you give almost a generic and by the numbers review to a "classic shoujo" like rose, while thumbing your nose at pretty good shows. What are even you standards for these ratings. You always talk about rewatching and lending these shows as being part of it, and honestly I can't say Rose lends itself to either rewatching or lending to anyone. The popularity of shows like Utena are on the decline, and even then Rose and Princess Knight were a few rungs below Utena. To me you wrote a review about a show based on what was expected to be said about due to its status moreso than watch the show actually brings to the table. I could also make the same statement about your judgements on Rail and Geminar.

Laughable how you slurp down the nonsense in shows like Rose as somehow being reflective of European culture Medieval era or how its some great social commentary. Its about as true to form as a dynasty warriors game is about the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history.

[Mod Edit: As the rules state, you can disagree but are expected to be respectful and civil towards others; be they staffmembers or other forumgoers. Continue this need to personally attack users and your posts will simply be deleted in the future. This isn't your first offense in this regard, and if your level of intolerance towards people you don't agree with is that extreme then that's unfortunate, but this behavior will not be tolerated. - Keonyn]

No, the main villains in Railgun were my favorite part; the first one for scope, the second for scale. World conquering mad scientists? Nope, not in Academy City. There, the mad scientists or rather scientists just want to complete their experiments in peace. Evil, nefarious peace.

If innocents get hurt? Ha, it's for science! For advancements in science! And if a huge mutant monster gets formed or people go mad from power or giant robots unleash destruction upon the hapless citizenry, well, like every sci-fi/horror movie would tell you, yeah, that'll happen sometimes...

It's called progress.

The only reason Makoto isn't on the wrong end of the "abuse of power" scale is because ... I can't figure that one out. If Judgment is official then why won't they come down on Makoto's base vigilantism or if they approve of her actions, recruit her?

Kenshi's bit more of a character than Tenchi but the girls aren't as interesting; It's a tradeoff based on the insular one world setting. An elf, a scientist, a lot of robot pilots...

I still love the series enough to preorder it and that's mostly based on the "who is this guy?" slice of school life episodes. Every time I watch it, I always forget how the story plays out but I never forget how the small fish in the big ocean turns out to be a great white shark. Everyone tries to take advantage of him and he pretty much pulls this "I'm a good boy" routine on them with a smile and a nod. He's genuine nice but that's because he can afford to be nice.
