F***!!!! I'm so mad about this. There are so many series from Del Rey that I want completed. Kodansha really didn't rescue a quarter of Del Rey's titles. Such crap.

I think it's safe to assume that all former Del Rey titles that weren't rescued are done and will never be completed in the U.S.

like Suzuka which would have been done with like 1 omnibus release. I get that its a tough business and that del rey had a lot of manga but it still sucks to hear a lot of stuff getting left out in the cold.

Really, I doubt anyone's crying any tears over not being able to read Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles anymore.

JManga's death makes this more of an insult. Someone should start a similar service soon and FAST so we can have those Del Rey titles rescued.

No surprise here, this is just what, the 3rd time they've made a statement like this.

This post reminds me though I've still yet to read Shugo Chara...really need to get around to that some day....hmm.

It wouldn't even take an omnibus to finish Ghost Hunt. One more volume. One more! That's all it would take to finish the series. I can't even begin to describe how much my blood boils when I think about it. Mad

It's really annoying that they're saying this now when there are literally DOZENS of Kodansha titles floating in license hell (including GTO, thanks a lot Vertical for burning us fans on not getting it, you know how awful some of the scanlations are? Mad ) and they just flat out won't get them because they won't sell.

This is why the manga market is failing here. Titles we want won't sell, they don't get licensed, piracy happens, then publishers start blaming piracy for low sales when they should realize the reason why is because they don't get what the fans are asking for. It's a cycle that just never stops and no matter what companies will try to do, series that fans would love to buy legitimately in English that are "too niche" and "won't sell" will never come out legitimately. I want to support manga here, but if Kodansha, Vertical, etc. just keep burning everyone left and right on license requests or rescues it's going to drive me to pirate along with many other people.

Oh, and where's more Zetsubou-sensei, Kodansha? You said it was on hold and it's been finished in Japan since last year. Is it just flat out canned?

You should be happy that Vertical released any GTO at all; the franchise (for them) has been unprofitable, and they've constantly said how poor the sales are. If you're going to blame anyone, blame the people that aren't supporting it by going out and buying it. The publisher gave their attempt, brought out more GTO for fans and did what they could.

If I had a nickel...

I'm pretty sure publishers are listening. Of some of the most hotly-requested and actually financially feasible series out there, a good few of them have already been licensed, or are very likely to be licensed. Kodansha USA is also doing what it can, and has done a great job in cleaning up their image and products. This is a difficult market to live in, for manga publishers, but they're constantly changing and adapting so that they may continue to live on and bring manga to fans.

It may not be the exact series we want, nor in the volume we'd ideally prefer, but that's reality. Kodansha USA can't rescue every Del Rey title, and it sucks, but that's how it is (I'd give anything to have the rest of Suzuka, GetBackers or Pumpkin Scissors). Support the series you do enjoy from these publishers. Speak with your money and buying habits. Encourage other fans to do the same.

woah hey vertical put out the unpublished GTO early years books and the GTO sequel which is plenty all things considered. Im holding out hope I stumble across a copy of young gto volume 8 one day but i cant expect vertical to put that out because Im sure a lot of people weren't interested in the arse end of a long out of print series that was near impossible to catch up on so i doubt they will have made money on them. Its not their obligation to rescue GTO.

What i never got was why tokyopop had stuff like beck and getbackers taken off them when there were no plans for kodansha USA to carry em on.

... I liked this series Sad

I'm really mad that they didn't rescue School Rumble. That was a kickass series.
