I'm not big on slapstick, and even I had to laugh out loud at that—and the subsequent scene where he carries on a conversation with a shuriken buried in his forehead.

Do you mean that he actually has a conversation with a shuriken, or that he is just merely talking to someone else while a shuriken is buried in his head? That may seem like a silly question, but the show that you were discussing looks like one where a talking shuriken wouldn't be out of place.

Yeah Mardock doesn't really work as a film trilogy. Just as I suspect the Hobbit won't. Both are single relatively short books, stretching not much material over three movies. Which of course throws out the pacing. E.g. the casino scene was fairly out-of-place even in the book but it was a lull before the climax, and I don't recall it dragging as much as the film version does, maybe I should reread. Of course in its original form Mardock was a 3 part serial novel before it was compiled. But even then it was released over only 3 months which meant the poor pacing was quickly accounted for. But these films drag the release over 3 years which makes it that much more noticeable.

I do not understand why Idolm@ster is not automatically perishable? It is crap.

In a long, drawn-out scene where she meets an old roulette spinner named Bell Wing, Rune becomes obsessed with roulette, while Oeufcoque tries to give her a lesson on probability, roulette spinning, and the interplay between spinner and player. It's riveting stuff, if you like to watch nothing happen ever. The exchange between Bell Wing and Rune is meant to be philosophical, I think, but it's a tedious scene to watch, especially since it feels so out of place. The whole casino scene is tedious, and it contrasts sharply with the fast-paced intro.

I haven't seen Mardock, (nor will I) but on The Hobbit, it is using material that was written by Tolkien himself and is featured in the appendices at the end of The Lord of the Rings It's not like they are adding entirely new things. Much of it is from the appendices. Basically, it was stuff that the author Tolkien wasn't able to put into The Hobbit.
