Perhaps if they plan on selling it there could be litigation. Otherwise, fashion being a form of art and culture, I imagine it could fall into the same protected fair use category as cosplaying.

Yeah, I think its just a costume. The one they'll sell is the silver bra she's wearing.. |

That outfit no way went with that bra. |

Is it me or are her legs too skinny?
Also it looks like the suit is riding up her crotch, which would not be pleasant. Yes, that's right, I care more about ogling the model than reading the article about some legality nonsense. Insert catchphrase. |

Rei's leg and foot design was not like the model's. Rei also did not have any forearm armor extending beyond the elbow, nor exposed upper half breasts..
The lower half looks more inspired from Aegis from Persona 3: |

Even the Biebs was shocked, judging by that picture.

Victoria Secret's people apparently do not have connected brain-cells. They've already had to remove one of their "inspired" outfits because it was "offensive"... Now this?
They need to re-evaluate every outfit they've to show and make sure they don't have a whole shebang of lawsuit. |

I don't get it. Why is everyone jonesing for a lawsuit? Gainax doesn't seem particularly offended, more just confused.
Victoria's Secret just dressed a runway model in crappy Ayanami Rei cosplay. THAT is awesome on every level I can think of. Nobody's going to sell that, all they did was make the audience go "WTF is THAT?" |

It didn't look great to me but I thought it was cool if it was Rei-inspired. I would imagine that Gainax might think "great some free publicity!"

Probably because they figured that since VS didn't get Gainax's permission for Rei's plugsuit design, that Gainax would sue them for infringement. As for the plugsuit shown during the fashion show, it was crappy. It looks too plastic looking, like a cheap Halloween costume. |

This sort of thing makes me scratch my head about anime fandom sometimes. Whenever any kind of homage to an anime is made in any unxepected place, the feedback from anime fans are it's either ripping off of the thing it's playing an homage to or it'll inspire a lawsuit from a Japanese company or the homage itself is crappy. Is it just that hard to... I don't know, not jump straight to a negative conclusion about this sort of thing?

GAINAX should be happy about the free publicity. Wouldn't a company usually have to pay to get a design included in a famous fashion show such as this one?

Skinny legs? Chance of cameltoe? If that isn't perfect for anime........!
But when it's done for a fan-made project, it's cool! |
