I was ready to skip this for 1-being a Capcom game, which I've grown weary of what with all their recent shennanigans, 2-looking like a rather uninspired fantasy game, and 3-NOT actually being a new Breath of Fire game, which I hoped when the title first came out (course, that's just me being a little silly, I'll admit)
Still, I've been hearing a lot of good things about it , and though I'm already strained from my backlog, it's nonetheless back on my radar.

You're not the only one. We all want Crapbomb to make a new BoF, but it's not likely. They live by the code "RPGs don't sell" and "recycled fighters and zombie crap always sell".

Totally sounds just like Skyrim.
Except with an actual difficulty curve and combat mechanics that aren't just flashier versions of the same shit in every other TES games.
And more than five kinds of enemies.
And a story that does the opposite of becoming completely dull and repetitive towards the end.
Man, Skyrim was pretty damn banal once you got past the fun of exploration. I might actually pick this game up.

Careful. I picked up a copy last Friday and I've already poured about 20-30 hours into it.
This review pretty much hits all the nails on the head. I think I'm definitely having more fun with this game than I have with the last few Elder Scrolls games. I especially like the whole pawn system. As you can use other players' pawns in your party, they can also use yours. Whenever you rest at an inn, your pawn will "return from their travels in another realm," with goodies and experience. Also, there's really nothing quite as satisfying as defeating a swarm of zombies by picking them up and throwing them off a cliff one-by-one, or annoying an ogre by clinging to its backside to the point that he throws himself off a cliff, you catching yourself on a lower ledge while the ogre falls and dies (and yes, I still got the experience for slaying it).

I'd actually be interested in seeing CAPCOM get another chance at this. Despite having some problems, the game's unique mechanics give it a LOT of potential. They really should have done away with the "kill/collect x amount of y" in favor of other stuff. I don't mind "kill this", "collect this", "escort them" quests as long as it's not a collect-a-thon. Fighting is pretty fun and it does have some cool atmosphere. It definitely has a more balanced difficulty curve than Dark Souls did.

Last poster kinda hit it on the head unintentionally, this looks like demons souls / dark souls but not as good. Ill get it eventually when it hits the 20 dollar range though.
But it hard to support capcom with their disdain for what I believe to be there to best franchises, BoF and Megaman Legends.

Sounds like a case where a sequel that copy-pastes the mechanics is actually a very good idea. Devs could just spend all their time making it less like a single-player MMO.

If someone said "You can only ever play Dark Souls OR Dragon's Dogma. Pick one." Yes, obviously Dark Souls, but that doesn't invalidate what Dragon's Dogma is doing.

Great review. I was already planning to pick this up anyways, but reading this just makes me want it even more.
Also, this game has officially licensed Berserk armor/weapons. Can't go wrong with Berserk
