Really fantastic list in my opinion. I love that Chika Umino is on top of the female manga authors. Hoping for an anime adaptation of Sangatsu no Lion.

Why are there separate lists for male/female creators? Is there anything that makes comparing them directly in one list not a good idea?

If I had to guess, it's probably just some convention that has held over since the lists were initiated. And there's really no point in changing it.

Happy to see Oda, Inoue, Urasawa, Sorachi, and Togashi in the top five for male manga creators. Cool
Excellent.

My top five would be pretty similar, albeit a bit differently ordered:
1. Naoki Urasawa
2. Takehiko Inoue
3. Eiichiro Oda
4. Yoshihiro Togashi
5. ???? Kentaro Miura maybe?

I'm not a big fan of Gintama, but I'm entirely sure it's because of the cultural gap.

Glad to see Togashi make the cut.

Too bad Toriyama isn't no.1. I also would have liked to see Kubo and Kishimoto up there.

Oda getting 2 times more votes than Inoue is a huge gap, Oda sure is favored is he?. Can't blame the voter's, Oda deserves it. I always wonder if post One Piece, if he can create a new blockbuster manga again, he probably will on similar genres.

I cant agree with Oda, he is so greatly overrated, sure he is probably in the top ten, but even if the list was strictly shonen, I would at minimum put Togashi and Toryiama ahead of him.

Takahashi is barely on the top 10, really, she only wrote Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, Masion Ikkoku, Inuyasha, etc. etec.
And I kind of think Aria Tanemura should be on that list, beautiful art, and several great series, including Full Moon.

And there are a couple on there, which I cant fathom.

Yay! Eiichiro Oda is #1! Anime smallmouth Long live One Piece!
I'm just wondering, though....I like Azumanga Daioh and all, but how did Kiyohiko Azuma get ranked higher than Akira Toriyama?? O.O I have to admit I do like the top 5, however. I would've liked to see Hiro Mashima and George Morikawa ranked, though.

Also...with the female list, I was surprised that Akira Amano and Katsura Hoshino weren't listed. D. Gray-Man and REBORN! are very popular series. I would've like to see Miwa Ueda ranked as well. Peach Girl is amazing! She isn't as popular as all of the other manga artists posted, though, so I understand ^-^. I was shocked at Rumiko Takahashi being at the bottom of the list. I like Chica Umino, but I like Takahashi better. Sorry! Dx

Yotsuba is quite popular.

And Toriyama hasn't had a serialized manga in... a long time.

This list is not indicative of Japan as a whole. So, "much ado about nothing", except that anyone can recognize his/her favourite name and say: "Ah, I knew it. He/she is the best". Da Vinci has its own readers, and they are not neccessarily avid readers of manga.

But I do respect the Da Vinci editorial opinion. Last year they put I Am a Hero on the top of the annual "best of manga" list (published in Kono Manga ga Sugoi!), and that is a choice I can understand.

Do not worry. Wink I have never seen Kishimoto on any serious Japanese "best of" list, and I've seen many of them.

Never saw the appeal of One Piece or Togashi's works. Yu Yu Hakusho was alright, but isn't Hunter x Hunter full of hiatus problems? I'm surprised the fans still bother with it since I've been watching the new anime and it just seems average at best.
