First Sengoku Otome, then came that Sengoku anime where all of the warlords were bishonens and now this.

How much more will Japan recycle Sengoku?

No different from the way the 3 kingdoms, medieval times or WWII is recycled all the time.

A country's history is something most people are familiar with and take pride in and people like things they're familiar with. Of course there will be tweaks here and there to keep things varied and interesting.

I know, right?
When'll we get a magical girl version of the Bolshevik Revolution or a love-triangle romcom anime based on the American Civil War?
A harem series about Ottoman-san's middle eastern brides-to-be?

Thirty Years' War events now operated by Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.

Read the headline: Well, that certainly sounds like a different spin on a romantic comedy show. At the very least I expect it'll avoid some of the usual cliches.

Read the article: Lol. Nope!

Sounds like garbage, but on the plus side, it reminded me of all the fun I had playing Nobunaga's Ambition back in the day. Ahh, memories.... Smile

I've always wondered this, but can you really write something off as garbage from just the premise alone? Shouldn't you actually, you know, watch it before you pass judgement?

Anyways, at the very least the girl in the image looks cute so there's one nice thing about it already.

Yes, I believe a person can. I think someone (Daryl Surat maybe?) once said that, as far as anime is concerned, a person actually can judge a book by its cover. Given a premise and a piece of key art or a cover illustration, it's pretty easy to look at an anime title and form an accurate snap judgement as to whether or not it will personally appeal. That being said, I haven't truly written off anything here. I'll check out the first episode or two, as I try to do for most titles in a season. But, given solely its premise and lacking any other evidence to the contrary, for now I'm sticking with, "crap." As with anything subjective, your mileage may certainly vary.

Certainly personal appeal can be judged by that much alone, but that means you should say "I don't think I'll like it" or "this show isn't for me." No need to be so harsh and say something is 'crap' or 'garbage.' Such claims have the impression that one is giving an objective assessment of quality rather than a subjective opinion.

I'm sure this will be quite enjoyable to the right crowd. There must be something of value in the light novels if they sold well enough to warrent an anime adaptation.

And I'll direct you back to my original post. Please note that I did not make an objective statement that this show is garbage, only that it, "sounds like garbage." The most obvious inference is that I'm making nothing more than a personal observation. The unstated implication is that it, "sounds like garbage (to me)." Other people might like it, you might like it, even I might like it once I've had a chance to watch a bit, but for the moment, I (personally) see (with only my own two subjective, idiosyncratically biased eyes) a derivative property (in my opinion) coming fast on the heels of an extremely similar and mediocre (again, imo) Sengoku Musume series.

As for what I should or should not do, I'm pretty sure there's no prohibition against forming a negative opinion about a new property on first blush. If the is, maybe you'd like to jump into all the other feedback threads and let other posters know. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person on ANN to make such an observation.

Popular doesn't not necessarily equal intrinsic quality. Perceived financial value does not necessarily equal perceived artistic value. And that I'm comfortable stating objectively. If that weren't the case, Twilight would be the one of the great literary works of the modern English language and we'd all be reserving a spot on our shelves for Sentai's upcoming Akikan set. Just because a title sells, or a group of people like it, doesn't mean the rest of us are required to celebrate its existence.

I did move into more general territory and I should have clarified I wasn't necessarily speaking to you specifically anymore. Sorry about that.

You're certainly not the first person and that's the thing: people are doing this all the time, particularly on ANN when any sort of moe/fanservicy/romantic comedy show gets announced. Certainly you have every right to not like it but I always see people being unecessarily harsh to these shows. They'll insist that it's the worst thing ever and rain on the parade of anyone who actually does like these kinds of shows.

I know popular doesn't equal quality, but my point was that there are those out there who will enjoy it and think it's good. As much as I don't think highly of Twilight I can't deny that there's a large faction of people who find it good.

We do this all the time with movie trailers. Look, Akira's hasn't even come out yet, and we're doing it already. Why change now? Laughing
