So now it's official, huh? I wonder who they found to direct it.

I'm surprised. I wonder if they will cast Asians in at least some of the parts. It'll be awkward for it to be called Akira otherwise.
I'm a little pessimistic about how good of a film will be made, but I am at least confident that it will be better than Dragonball: Evolution, much a papercut is.

Wow.... an an anime adaptation finally green lighted. That's like once in a blue moon. If they can make a good movie out of this, I would love to see good adaptations of move anime series.

Akira has a Japanese feel to it (not to mention its title) that will feel awkward if it takes place in America.
Why isn't Death Note greenlit yet? Death Note is a story that could take place in almost any city (Manhattan included), and it would still make perfect sense. |

They are leaving anime alone. The existence of this film will nto cause every copy of Akira to spontaneously disintegrate. It will merely cause the existence of another form of the story which anybody should be quite able to ignore. People, especially those with niche interests, always seem to have trouble with the concept for some reason. Last edited by Surrender Artist on Wed Oct 19, 2011 10:08 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Harold and Kumar. Just make them the main characters, doesn't matter which ones.

the day this hits theaters is the day I'll probably wear out my DVD copy, no matter what their are going to be screw ups, as for how it'll compare to dragon ball evolution (and it's future squeal) is undecided until production actually starts

Huh. The staff doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

No cast? If it's been green lit to start filming in Feb/March, there has to be a cast!

However, it's actually someone named Jaume Collet-Serra whose work I am not familiar with. |

Its doable, but they would have to jettison anything Japanese (already changed Tokyo to Manhattan) except for the title. A bunch of pasty faced white boys yelling "Tesuo!" and "Kaneda!" might not resonate with the Anglos. Instead we'll probably get people yelling "Smith!" and "Jones!"
But all the back and forth with getting this project started sure as heck doesn't inspire confidence. Hopefully it wont be 90 million down the drain and instead it will surprise us. |
