Ok, now I'm disppointed. ANOTHER Kite/Balmung/Orca remake? Really? It's like CyberConnect has no ideas for original characters anymore. Where's the BlackRose remake? She's gotta be somewhere! And the voices...! Yuck! This is why I hate it when people put live-action actors into animated movies (it seems to be a problem mostly in Japan). The main character seems so fakey. I'd honestly rather a 3D movie on what some of the previous characters are doing in real life now. Although hat would mean ATOLI showing up... *shiver*

Uh, did you read the other article? This takes place almost 15 years after the original games, and the player of the Kite-lookalike is female.

Hey, I'd wait until the thing comes out before passing judgment. I was irritated when .hack//Quantum OVA series came out with their character designs, but was pleasantly surprised when I actually watched all three installments and found that it still felt very much like .hack. That, and the fact that people on the forum mentioned that there's an in-universe reason for a bunch of clones running about the new game helped a bit...even though that was lost due to the lack of localization for .hack//Link. The same thing might happen here; even though we have more clones, the story might be really good.
That being, I do have some minor grievances, such as the more rounded and watercolor-like... "shoujo-esque" feel to the character designs and color palette.
Not to mention the name, which I hope is a tentative title, especially since this is supposedly the last entry of the entire series. We have way too many things coming out with "The Movie" these days. XP

I like Atoli. I think she's an interesting character who isn't much unlike Tsukasa in real life (has trouble fitting in, no real friends, came to The World looking for an escape). She was also one of the two GU characters without a connection to the original World which makes her unique among the other Epitaph users (the other being Bo).
Can't say cramming some sort of game on the BD makes me very excited. Bandai did a very bare bones release of Trilogy, hasn't shown any interest in releasing Quantum (maybe it's too early), and is avoiding .hack//Link. Tokyopop gave the franchise more respect before they closed than Bandai has since the GU games ended. Even if the BD release has English subs (Quantum didn't have subs so I'm not expecting them here) I wouldn't expect the game to.
What can I say, after passing on Link Bandai has left me a little bitter. Rather than trying to recreate Kite and company as main characters for the THIRD time I'd rather see them remaster and enhance the original four games and put them on PSN or a single BD disk.

No, I agree with mew. It may be new players, but they can't keep going back to the same PC designs over and over, it got stale after Twilight Bracelet did it. GU was forgivable since they were AIs made from the original The World data. Quantum and The Movie doing it feels more like a lack of originality than being in tribute. We've had our tributes, what we need are new character designs, not redesigns.

I DID read it. I also have previous knowledge of many many many remakes. Have you seen the remakes of Kite, BlackRose, Orca and Balmung? Twilight Bracelet, Kite? (character in .hack//Link), .hack//GU (acceptable), Quantam, etc... I said remake, not a cameo.

I have to agree and disagree here. Sakuya and Tobias (Mary wasn't around long enough) were much stronger tributes to their respective "originals" than Shugo and Rena ever were. The whole "let's give the main characters the avatars of the original heroes" shtick didn't settle right even when Legend of the Twilight first did it.
What I believe makes a proper tribute is whether or not the "copied" characters prove themselves to be strong/solid characters by their own merits and by how they choose to react to situations that parallel the originals in certain, but subtle ways, which is what I believe Quantum managed to do well. As for Shugo...while I liked LotT, his journey was rather small-scale compared to the rest of the main entries in the series, so it didn't feel like he was fleshed out well enough as a character much outside of average, hormone-addled, teenage boy. In turn, that also meant that there was absolutely no need for him to take the mantle of Kite in even a metafictional sense.
But that's my opinion. This topic is not about those two entries of the series, so I won't go any further; this about what CyberConnect2 has aptly named "The Movie."
I honestly can't tell whether or not Kite (Sora) and the other two will be strong enough characters to hold up what is supposedly the last entry of the .hack//series chronologically (assuming they don't pull another G.U. on us) The trailer was clearly meant to show off the visual side of things as opposed to the meat of the story. Though I will say that her cameo in Link appears pretty much consistent with what they show of her here. She has the potential to be well-developed, but I can see that she also has the potential to make the film overtly cheesy. I mean, when you get the feel of "American children's fantasy adventure film" from the way you see a character acting, that's when you know you have a problem.
The little bit of the set-up that they do show also gives me a sort of gut feeling: Quantum Lite. Which isn't really good, since we just had Quantum not too long ago. Three IRL friends join the newest version of The World and then weird things begin to happen? Yeah. But again, I'm waiting it out.

I thought Kite (Sora)'s cameo in .hack//Link worked as a joke character (considering every picture I've seen of her has her mouth gapping open as she stumbles through her motion). That doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence in me of her being a good protagonist. She looks pretty much the same in the trailer, constant awe and panic.
And we already have a Sora...

Bah, just read that Game Watch goofed, there is no PS3 game. They confused info about Tekken Hybrid as being for .hack//The Movie. It just keeps getting worse.
