EXCELLENT review Carl!!!

Man, now I wanna watch this show! Why you gotta do that to me Carl, you... Mad

If there's one thing I'd HAVE to disagree with, it's that, anime-wise, Cross Game is INFINITELY superior to Touch.
Being that I watched Cross Game first probably set the bar pretty high, but even at ep 67, Touch has uneven pacing, shotty romance potential, and very much dragged out.
But I do enjoy the music(OP 2 is one of my favorites), the nice loveable cast, the baseball parts, and it's still pretty high class stuff!

But... I am comparing it to Cross Game. Rolling Eyes

Slam Dunk sounds like something every good anime has: good control of it's strengths.
I can see how that by itself would make you compare that to bread and butter, but it's only the beginning! And I can't help but get even more excited because of this... poetry of a review.

Well, if nothing else, you've convinced me I need to check out Touch and Hajime no Ippo. Wink Actually, I tried reading Slam Dunk, since I've loved Takihiko Inoue's later work (Vagabond, Real) and just couldn't get into it, so your review of the anime doesn't surprise me, coming out somewhere along "good but not that good."

And as for Cross Game... maybe one day I'll finally figure out what the hell people saw in the first episode of that, but in the meantime I think I said all I wanted to say on that subject in Theron Martin's review of it. Hopefully Touch won't be as contrived.

Good review, fair comments ^^ What I personally found interesting is how Ippo and Touch were used as the benchmark for great sports anime when for me, Slam Dunk was actually the benchmark for many many years. Slam Dunk was the show I measured up everything else to and it was only till I watched Ippo years later that I found a show to surpass it, and even then it was only with grudging reluctance that I admitted it was superior, such was my love for Slam Dunk ^^

Looking back now I can see that Ippo is much better on the whole but Slam Dunk still edges it for me in terms of affection because of its stellar cast of characters and sheer fun. Nowadays, I still rate the two shows around equal and add to that the more recent brilliant Ookiku Furikabutte and there is my personal holy trinity of classic sports anime.

I can't comment on Touch as I've not seen the anime, have only read the manga, which, though good enough, has never really inspired me to go on to watch the anime ^^;
