so does this confirm that FUNimation really isn't doing "amazing"? Well, in that its not actually "FUNimation is doing victory laps" but "even FUNimation is having sales problems and has to fire people"?

This definitely isn't it. The "weaker release schedule" has to do with the HUGE surge of titles they got last year from Geneon and ADV. They more than doubled the number of titles in their inventory and were easily able to put them out--giving them rather easy money.

So a decrease is logical as all of those titles have since made their way out. FUNimation is, as I see it, no way failing like Bandai has begun to (or Geneon, ADV, CPM did).

Yeah, keep the dream alive. Seriously, that just means Geneon/ADV acquisitions turned out to be unprofitable.

The way I see it, the rest of this year should be pretty good for them, what with Eden of the East, Hetalia, DBZ Kai, FMA Brotherhood and other excellent titles out right now or coming soon.

Taking a sales dip obviously confirms all your suspicions. Funimation was flat out lying about their previous quarterly reports, Navarre is about to go out of business and is trying to sell Funimation to stay afloat, and Funimation is looking to do co-productions and get out of the anime business, otherwise it is going to blow up like all the rest of the anime companies. You were clearly spot on. I'm sure in six months from now when Navarre is out of business, Funimation is out of business or only making American cartoons, and there is almost no anime market left in North America you'll love how you can tell all of us I told you so.

I wouldn't say we were "used," though this newsl does change things slightly. We never said they were doing gangbusters, they're clearly not. I said they weren't failing, as they are not. I have not heard wind of any layoffs or planned layoffs (Funi has actually hired people recently). A 15% drop in sales (with a similar drop in SKU output) is not good news, but it's actually not terrible considering the sales slides at most other home video labels. (Overall DVD sales dove 13% in '09.)

I have no doubt that Navarre's announcement and Gen's interview was spun in a positive direction, but that doesn't mean what they said and what we reported isn't true, and this is new data. I stand by our analysis that this is more about mismatched companies than about Funimation ownership suddenly becoming a toxic asset. However, the fact that Navarre is preemptively moving it to a discontinued operation status means that they're pretty serious about selling...

so many titles lost if that happens. Dose that mean that one of the few last standing will go out of the world? how dose this news affect the release of titles?

What happens then? Digital only? no way to own the show?

But some people are just such trolls that it really doesn't matter how detailed the picture is... they just have to be right.

Speaking of which, why hasn't that troll been banned yet?

It's obvious he has nothing of import to discuss and just wants to troll.

Until Funi is sold it will be classified as a discontinued operation. Looks pretty toxic to me and no definition supports the line "...Funimaiton will continue to operate as normal." after getting classified as a discontinued operation.

Navarre is looking to show how profitable they are without having Funimation dragging down their numbers.

I am interested in two scenarios;
1. The sale. Who will buy and what will happen to Funi after.
2 What if there is no sale. Will Navarre completely shut down FUni

if Funimation closes its doors i will miss it a whole bunch. A Good bit of what i own is from funimation. I hope this dose not happen to the point that Funimation no longer exists. Spice and wolf season 2 needs to be out as well as a few others before that happens.

Bandai and Del-rey seem to be haveing problems as well.

Also it would be nice if i could own more things sub only in digital right after release with sub titles. That would be nice.

I feel dirty from reading the words of someone who can't understand the term "lower sales" does not equate to "not profitable".

If it costs them $100 to release a series, and used to make $200, but now are only making $150, it still goes to show they're profitable.

I felt the need to use small numbers for those who don't know how to comprehend what they're reading.
