Just my luck. This was the first year since 2003 that I *didn't* attend Anime North, and I missed you guys being there.
Oh well. There's always next year.

I didn't expect ANN providing coverage on Anime North, so seeing this was a pleasant surprise, as a resident of the GTA.
And by the way, the convention space is called the Toronto Congress Centre, not the Toronto Conference Centre.
Also, a quick question: did ANN cover the Media Blasters panel at all?

I wasn't able to attend the Media Blasters panel unfortunately - time was a little constrained with it being in the building a few blocks away from the main AN hotels. Word from those manning the booth was that it was going to focus very little on their mainstream anime/manga properties though, but I'm not able to confirm this.

No surprise Funimation can't get anime on TV here considering YTV and teletoon have all but eliminated any anime programming blocks. I'd say Teletoon has the best chance but they are really pushing the retro stuff right now. Good to see they are pushing the YouTube content for those looking for an alternative. I buy the DVD's regardless so... It's just to bad YTV sold out to the man and just show live action garbage as they played a lot of awesome stuff. Go even further back and Teletoon was playing some really awesome anime back in the day like Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, and the Patlabor movies just to name a few which really shows how bad anime has fallen here.
As for the con itself I have to say it's a yearly reminder why I don't attend anime cons with all the screaming and socially awkward teenagers (and creepy old dudes). Pretty much just borrowed my buddies pass for an hour so I could pick up the Moribito DvD box set from the Media Blasters table and take a quick poke around the dealers room.

That's some impressive growth, from 14.8k to 18.5k in one year.

This is the reason I wish I didn't live in the sticks! Hopefully someday I'll be able to attend Anime North or Fan Expo. I can just imagine the cost of plane tickets and hotels though .

Irwin Tan said that 18,500 was the "warm body count" which includes an estimated 16,000 attendees plus all the guests, dealers, staff/volunteers, etc. But yeah, I'm sure it grew a lot partly because of the fantastic weather
I didn't like that they have the events so spread out. Anything in the Sheraton was harder to go see, being removed from everything else. I never saw the shuttle bus, so I only walked down to an event there once. Events at the Doubletree and the Congress Centre plus a separate area for press conferences was already quite a lot of running around. (I was covering the con as press too, still writing up my coverage)
I am curious how FanExpo will expand this year in comparison. Especially since last year a fire marshall had to shut the doors and turn people away. I think Anime North will soon get to be too big for the venues they're currently using, it makes me wonder if soon they will consider moving to the MTCC. Previously they said it was too expensive. With the attendance they have now though, maybe it will be easier to get sponsors?
