Using moe to recruit soldiers. Only in Japan.
Nice poster, though. Kinda looks like Minori from Toradora! with brown hair. On a side note: How the heck do you pronounce Ufotable? I usually just call them "UFO Table", but is it maybe "oof-ot-able"? This one has been stumping me for a while... ![]() Emerje |

Strike Witches? I'm a butcher of the Japanese language, so I just run with UFO Table until I get yelled at. |

That's a good question. The Japanese pronounce UFO as, "yuufoo," so, um, yeah. Now I want to know. EDIT: Checked after dinner. According to both English and Japanese Wikipedia, it's, "ユーフォーテーブル," so, yes, it's, "Yū-Fō Table." I'm sure, "U.F.O. Table," is also fine. It's a cool poster, I wouldn't mind having one up on my wall. I wonder if they ship overseas...

Er, so anyone better at me with Japanese have any thoughts on how to translate what it says? Had to look up the top-left kanji (誇), but without running a ton of google searches to check while I'm at work, I'm thinking it says something like "The more you know, the more pride you can take in the job!" or something like that?

You know, using popular cartoon character format to recruit new military personnel isn't new. We did that same thing during WW2. We used Warner, Disney, and other studio characters. Even though we don't use cartoon characters now, the military is using popular youth entertainment like video games to recruit young people. |

Hm, sounds like a symptom of the SDF getting desperate for recruits and willing going to a more innovative route. I doubt this flashy advertising will do anything significant.
A labor shortage (less enlistees), short term concerns over North Korea, and long term concerns over China will do that. |

Thanks for that. ![]()
Well sure, but a lot of that was propaganda and civilian rallying for contributions (rationing, collections, war bonds) using established characters. There's something a little more unique about creating a new character of a young girl to attract guys to the military. Emerje |
