The Princess and the Frog will win; the first black Disney Princess and all. Other than that prediction I have absolutely no opinion on the subject.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that the Secret of Kells made it. Less surprised, however, at the fact that Ponyo didn't, although I admittedly have seen neither (although I would like to see both).

No surprise that PONYO didn't make it either. Go Princess and the Frog!

F*CK THE BLIND SIDE! F*CK SANDRA BULLOCK! FU- oh we're only talking about the animated movies, aren't we?
Well then, Pixar's third in a row is in the bag.

Edit: Huh, the main nominations page incorrectly lists only four nominees. My bad. Coraline was quite fun, glad to see it get a nod (though it shouldn't win).

The fact that Up was also nominated for Best Picture pretty much guarantees it will win. Unless it actually does win Best Picture, in which case the Academy might throw some other movie a bone. Personally, Up was one of my favorite movies this year, though I want to wait to see, well, most of the others before I make my final pick. Avatar will probably win just because it has gobs of money to spend on campaigning, but there were many other better movies this year (it should win all the technical awards, though).
Edit: Also, anybody else wish the Razzies would make a category for Worst Animated Feature Film? Or do we not want to stick bad animated movies in a ghetto?

Now where is GATSU when we need him. Times like this, he knows how to bring a discussion to the table.

There's no way it's going to win. The win is going to Up, or in the case of an upset, Fantastic Mr. Fox. The Princess and the Frog was nowhere near as good as those two.
Not a surprise that Ponyo wasn't nominated. I didn't particularly care for it, but it was beautifully animated. I haven't seen The Secret of Kells yet, but from the trailer I just watched, it certainly looks good, and has a very unique visual style. Almost like The Thief and the Cobbler.
This really was a great year for animated films. I can only think of two (Ice Age 3 and Planet 51) that were less than stellar.

Is it really that big of a deal that a movie did NOT make it to the Oscars? Does this even qualify for making a newspost out of?

Aw, I hope Coraline wins.
As for Ponyo, I haven't seen it yet, so I don't care.

Well, there were a lot that were less than stellar--Monsters Vs Aliens and 9 just to name a few that come to mind. However, both of those were amusing in their own way and not ones I regret seeing. Heck, I'd even own 9 if the price gets right in a couple of years.
Anyway, I, too, don't mind seeing Ponyo not make the nominations... I'm personally gunning for Fantastic Mr. Fox, though that is a dark horse when stacked against an average Pixar film (aka, great... but worthy of winning in a strong year? I say no) and a Disney return-to-form in the Princess and the Frog (so I hear, I have yet to actually see it).

Yeah I agree, I know some people who worked on that so I'm quite pleased to see it nominated, not that its going to win.
As for Ponyo I'm not too surprised by it not being nominated, lets be honest theres been much better anime movies that weren't nominated in the past.

Not surprised that Ponyo didn't get nominated since I heard (curse you short releases!) wasn't as good as Studio Ghibli's other films. I am surprised to see Fantastic Mr. Fox and the Secret of Kells on there however (haven't seen either of those as well but they sounded like they were quite good). Hope somebody other than Pixar wins for once.

I think 'Planet 51' would run away with it. Too bad 'Delgo' came out last year....

I think out of the nominees. Up should get the Oscar nod. The story is very pleasant and rich. Coraline (Henry Selick) also looks like a contender. Maybe Fantastic Mr. Fox (I read the book as a kid. It was funny).
Princess and the Frog might get a musical Oscar, but it's animation isn't as strong as the others.
I haven't seen Secret of Kells, but I might google it.
