Should the music be dubbed or undubbed? If left undubbed the transition between speaking and singing voices might be a bit jarring. Dubbing the music would be pretty challenging and a lot could be lost in translation.

It boggles my mind as to why people are buying anime on Blu-ray. As omnipotent and godlike Kyoto Animation may be, I highly doubt that K-On! was produced in a high-definition format.

Do not get me wrong, some anime looks amazing in Blu-ray (like Akira). It is just that a majority of them will not look that much better. I just do not see the point in buying most anime in Blu-ray unless they have amazing scenery scenes (like 5 Centimeters Per Second).

Yes, K-On! was produced in high-definition, and, yes, it looks much better in HD, as evidenced by this DVD/BluRay split image I stole from Sankaku Complex.

Oh, I don't know. HD video and better codecs than DVD, lossless audio. Even fansubs of HD broadcasts tend to look better than DVD.

It was, and you're wrong. Why would you assume otherwise? Most animation, and TV in general produced today is HD. Obviously detail levels vary depending on budget, and a full blown theatrical feature is generally going to look better than a TV series. Do you seriously think nobody would notice if every anime blu-ray released was an upscale? There's a reason anime upscales are generally disliked, and they're the exception, not the rule (unless if you're Funimation).

To be fair, I'm pretty sure that K-ON HD wasn't shown on TV till a few weeks after the SD had aired. At least, that's how it has been with other KyoAni stuff lately.

But yeah, HD/BluRay make a huge difference

Are people seriously still thinking like this? I had actually thought that trend had come and gone, but I guess I had gotten my hopes up prematurely yet again. Ever since people have started treating them like flawless producers thing have gotten really screwy in the anime fandom.

That's not really a valid comparison since at least one of the images has been rescaled.

Indulge me here ... and just how would you know it should, not only be licensed, but dubbed? I mean, for someone who posts on every licensing thread for sub-only titles, saying IT SHOULD BE DUBBED or something of that nature, surely you aren't watching, illegal subtitles, are you? Wink

(You don't need to respond, that was rhetorical and semi-sarcastic.)

I remember you posting in some other thread as if you had seen the whole show already. Guess stuff is good enough to watch illegally with subtitles but when it comes to supporting good shows, they gotta deliver it to you on a gold platter and only a gold platter for some folks to support a show they supposedly enjoyed, and enjoyed so by questionable means.

They need to rescale the DVD image otherwise it wouldn't match up, since the BluRay image is twice the scale.
