This is definitely one of the more niche looking anime.

The anime may look niche but there is very little niche about the character's popularity on the territory of the former Soviet Union.
I am higely doubtful that these 3 minute episodes would be able to best the superb stop motion animation cartoon made in the USSR. That said, I'd be curious to give it a look and would be doubly interested if Uspensky himself was involved. |

Oh god...
I don't know if this is good or bad. I remember watching the old 60's cartoons, and Cheburashka gave me nightmares. I was little, couldn't understand half the words at the time, and the voices scared me. I don't know how this'll work, but I might check it out, anyway... |

If the robotic cat Doraemon is the national anime animal symbol of Japan, then Russia's is a cartoon monkey. To each their own, however, that is a very interesting difference in culture.

He ain't the only one. Che may be popular, but it wasn't a long-running series or anything. Maybe 3 or 4 eps. Although there IS that strange appeal about Che and his friends. Let's not forget the Wolf and Hare from "Nu Pogodi!" (possibly the most popular and long-running Soviet series, as well as "Prostokvashino" series, also based on Uspenskiy books. I do want to see this remake, hopefully it'll be available in RAWs at least; I watched the Japanese dub of the original on Youtube, it was surprisingly well-done. |
