It's too bad Aaron Dismuke's voice changed too much. I felt like he was one of the few tolerable voices in that overrated dub of the series. In fact, his Alphonse Elric was probably the best performance in the whole thing.
I'm on the fence over whether or not to get this collection. I've seen the shorts before, and they're ultimately pretty forgettable and unimportant.
It is nice to know Ed and Al live to such a ripe old age, though.

I saw a trailer for the OVA and even though I'd seen him in-person at a con, I was surprised by how different Dismuke's performance was as Al.
It's sad, of course, but when working with someone who was actually the character's age during the series' run, it's somethin' I know I gotta accept. Nevertheless I'll definitely be getting this DVD. Kids is well worth it, if nothin' else.

It kinda sucks that Aaron's voice changed that much because of puberty. :/ I still love him as a voice actor though and I appreciate FUNi's tempt. I'll still own this DVD either way because FMA is the one series I have all of (including both versions of the movie). Kids and The Interactive Experience make this OVA Collection for me anyway.

The OVA collection was definitely worth the advanced purchase at San Diego Comic Con, although at $10 it was only a few dollars more than it would be at RightStuf on Funi sale. That said it was definitely worth it, though it would have been nice to know what the Interactive Experience was beforehand. Personally I thought that that one was hilarious, as was Chibi Wrap Party.
Havoc actually does the talking during Interactive Experience, at least for most of it. It was funny having him blame Mustang for being lazy instead. Aaron's voice, while noticeably different, didn't at all bother me that much, and the puberty joke was funny for me at least. I would have picked him over a recast though, at least for this short.

I do like that Funi took took the effort to bring this over. However the Live Action was really pointless when I watched long ago. "Look Al is standing in the street." "Oh, now he's on the sidewalk... How cute!" yay? The kids short was nice though.

What happened to State Alchemists vs Homunculi? Wasn't that part of the original collection?

It's here, but it's now called by its alternative name, "The Interactive Experience".

ahh, thank you. the new name/review made it out to be like one of those old school fmv games.

This has to be the most hilarious reason for a minus ever. I'm not saying it to discredit the review or anything but it makes me laugh.
Sucks though- I kind of wondered what they were going to do Brotherhood.

The one thing I didn't like about Dismuke's voice back during the original FMA was that sometimes my ears will feel like they were going to bleed whenever he raises his voice then his normal like either like a scream or just something louder than normal. His normal voice sounded great though when he was talking normally. But I just hope the rest of the cast sound just like always like Edward, Lust, Greed, and all of those other characters. But Dismuke's older voice now is just no why did your voice have to change so much? It also makes me want to think to myself, Funimation you said you were going to get the rights for this soon back in 2006 so why did you let Dismuke's voice go through puberty?

that's good to hear.A lot of people would've called bloddy murder if it didn't included it.Either way,it's still interesting enough for my eyes.
Hopefully, the change for Al's voice doesn't mean that funi might have to change it when they start doing the dub version of brotherhood.

I do agree on the Brotherhood remark. I wonder what Funimation will do with Alphonse for it? Recast Alphonse? Digitally "de-age" Aaron's voice? It'd be a shame to lose Aaron Dismuke, though Funimation may have no choice.

Well Aaron Dismuke can't help it that he went through puberty, cut the guy some slack please.

This is why, when everyone was jumping up & down about using actual KIDS in voice acting, I never agreed.
Look at Conan. Hells bells, he's been shrunk long enough to have actually returned to his original age, hasn't he? There are wonderful reasons for going with adults who can manage a young-sounding voice.
Like the franchise outlasting a normal childhood.
I always found it difficult when they swapped out the Charlie Brown voices when I was a child & we didn't have dvds or VHS, meaning children got those specials whenever the networks decided to air them. One would automatically compare the old & new voices & usually the new one took getting used to.
