Interesting show, but when I watched it I wondered if there was better stories from the manga they could have used as a basis for the OVA. The show reminded me of Master Keaton.

While I agree it's a forgotten title, it's actually gotten press over its lifetime, at least from the review sites. ANN, Anime Jump, AnimeOnDVD, THEMAnime, and TheAnimeReview all have reviews of it published. There's a broad range of opinion, though, ranging from "B+" to "1 star".

I think this was the first BT column where I wasn't even aware of the title. I was just able to snag a DVD copy of it from Amazon for less than $2.

Yeah, I just went to Amazon and found it listing for around $2 as well. Even if it sucks, it still costs less than a coffee. Er, not that I don't trust Justin's judgment, but to each his own. |

I was thinking the same thing. Probably the backgrounds and muted colors. And while we're on the subject, Master Keaton needs some love one of these days! |

Hmmm...sounds interesting. I may just search for a copy and check it out.

You just keep digging them up, don't ya, Justin?
I just found the DVD on eBay and ordered it there--after shipping, the total came up to just under $7, which isn't too bad. |

Another addition to the Netflix queue. Sounds interesting.

One of the best parts of this article is not the article itself, but watching the Amazon marketplace after it goes up. I've watched tapes go from $2-5 to gone in the space of a weekend. I wonder how this one'll do?

Wow, I remembered the title well enough, but couldn't recall the story without reading the article first, then it all came back to me. When I saw this, I wasn't actually expecting very much, but I did find I liked it better than I thought I would. I just checked, I rated it "good" but it seems that there are few ratings, so this was probably a good one to highlight. I am glad you are doing these Justin, they are always fun to read.

I don't know, but I always wonder that, too... I scored this one for $2 plus $3 shipping. Which I'm quite content with. |

Wow, that's... quite awful. I'm glad my DVD doesn't have Bikky and his giant foot on the cover. (Is he supposed to be kicking his shoe off, or is that just a really failed perspective shot?) |

He's kicking his shoe off. Fake's VHS dub cover was pretty bad, but OTOH it sort of exemplified the sort of curiosity-of-the-bizarre feel that Media Blasters titles of the late 90s and early 2000s had. (Check out the utterly BIZARRE trailer as well!
The other two hilariously awful VHS covers I keep remembering are the CPM releases of Ariel and Garaga. Extreme close-ups of grainy, blobby looking cell scans coupled with truly zero-effort title treatments. I don't have time to find scans of those, but if you have 'em, post 'em here! |
