Finally!

I stopped halfway through the Japanese version a couple years ago. It was interesting, but hard reading. Too many specialized words that weren't in the Japanese-Englsih or even Japanese-Japanese dictionary.

Shocked Whoa! Weird cover.

But seriously, I'm definately happy to hear this. If an American version isn't released, there's a much better import option now.

Whoa, cool. I didn't know this was based on a novel. Anyway, I bought this on BD awhile back and thoroughly enjoyed the story, and very trippy visuals.

Maybe I'll pick up the book to see how they compare, and to find out what is different between each medium.

There is also another collection of his short stories in English:

What the Maid Saw: Eight Psychic Tales

This was published back in 1990 by Kodansha

I just finished reading the first chapter that has been translated.

It didn't translate well at all unfortunately.

I am still going to read the first 7 chapters all the way through but chapter 1 wasn't impressive Sad

Kodansha also released another story collection of Tsutsui's in 1986 called The African bomb and other stories, translated by David Lewis.

You should watch the interview with Kon and the actors that's on the disc; they talk about the novel and other things...it's very entertaining.

Oh really? Cool, I think the interviews was one of the few extras on the disc that I hadn't checked out.

looks like I'll either be importing it myself or getting a friend who lives in the UK to get it for me there and send it over.

Seems like the translation resulted in a lot of choppy sentences that just remove any type of flow from the story. Hopefully it gets better than the snippet I read, but this is one of the few books I've wanted to read after seeing a movie adaptation of it. What the Maid Saw sounds like a pretty good read as well.

Another of his books published in English is:

Portraits of eight families

Published by Kodansha in 1989

ETA: Oops... this is the same set of stories as "What the Maid Saw"
