Well, I'm pretty much sold; solid entries into the fantasy genre seem rare enough as is, let alone grade A-scoring ones. Another thing for me to buy...

...And another thing for me to watch for at my local library...or maybe request for purchase! (you try being a grad student and reading anything longer than a manga volume during the school year...)

I honestly don't see why a pink cover would drive people away. If thats the only minus you can think of thats pretty lame. Good review over all.

...edit
after reading the other post more closely I might stay away from it for now.

This is a series that anyone of any age—male or female—who loves high fantasy for all ages grounded in Western history and mythology in the tradition of Tolkien or C.S. Lewis needs to pick up right quick.
...
Indeed, like many of the classic shoujo manga which this one seems to emulate, it is chock full of homoeroticism.

Funny, I don't remember a lot of homoeroticism in Tolkien and Lewis. That one sentence right there is enough to stop me from going over to Amazon and ordering it. Could it be possible that the reviewer was simply misinterpreting these frames?

Rolling Eyes Guys aren't going to touch it with a ten-foot pole because of the pink cover.

Casey, my shojo-reviewing queen, can you please review Palette of 12 Secret Colors?

Hehe, already way ahead of the review (waiting for Vol. 5 here) =3

And no offense Casey, but I think you're way off with the homoeroticism comment. I've read up to Vol. 4 and there really isn't any clear sign. The reason Badd and Gaius keep exchanging looks is because spoiler[Gaius wants to kill him].

Great review! I'm definitely going to check out this series.

Now if only CMX would use higher quality paper, I'd be really happy. Smile

American manga publisher CMX became known early on for its iconoclastic selection of vintage classics of shoujo manga such as Swan and From Eroica with Love,

I've become a fan of this company for this reason alone, hope they keep bringing over other classics, especially of the shoujo and josei genre.

It's hard to find a fantasy manga that's done right, and this review pretty much convinced me to invest on this series. Hope it will indeed be a good read.
