Oshii's art style is quite unusual in this film. He rarely casts younger people in his anime, and even when he does, they don't "act" young. I hope he's able to convey the essence of youth better than in that Blood novel.

I so want this to be licensed and dubbed. It's the only other series that has used the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden which was a WW2 experimental fighter with an advanced design for its time. It only actually flew for 45 minutes during a test, just before the Japanese surrender, which ended it's production, and then forgotten until re-discovered in old archives. It is speculated that the 2 prototypes built were distroyed so that the Allies couldn't steal the design for their own use, but it was soon obsolete anyway with the simultaneous invention of the jet fighter in Germany and, shortly later at Farnborough, England. "Oh My Goddess" had a story arc about it in the manga, which coincidentally is where I first learned about the Shinden.

Wow. Well if nothing else the aerial battles in this will be amazing. Of course, I doubt that will be all. I have pretty high hopes for this. I can't wait for it's release.

Well he threw his signature fish eye lens in there.
Also, the majority of planes carry most of there fuel in the wings, you would think with that many huge holes in them, that at least you would see some kind of fluid leaking out, if not on fire. Unless he got shot down on bingo. But I digress, it looks like some awesome aerial battles, and hopefully the story will be interesting as well. |

Looks interesting. Somehow it seems to resemble Makato Shinkai's works, what with the arial combat amidst some sort of relationship between the main characters. I couldn't understand the dialogue though, so I could be wrong.

Wow. Not much to be said about Oshii that hasn't been overstated many times before. I really want to see this.
Oh, and something caught my eye. Even though there are nearly no scenes depicting moving mouths, there are a few in the first half of the trailer that shows AMAZING sync between the movement of the lips and the speaking voice. |

Gorgeous visuals! This is an absolute must-watch. I'm looking forward to the release and can't wait to see for myself how utterly amazing this movie will be. I'm interested in the novels, too...
But really, Oshii wins. |

If nothing else I'll probably be able enjoy this movie for the visuals alone. I was able to thorughly enjoy Afro Samurai with it's amazingly well done animation despite the story, plot, and characters being just one big cliché after another. However, knowing Oshii I'm sure this movie is going to MUCH more than just pretty pictures. Can't wait to see a US release, maybe even a theatrical release.
