I was almost doubting that Square-Enix was going to do it and to be honest, I feel like not too many people were surprised by this, don't know if it's because all of the mainline Final Fantasy games from I to XII, not counting XI since it was an MMORPG, were ported to the Switch, because of Cloud and Sephiroth's inclusion in Smash Bros. or the fact that FFVII Remake was made available on the Steam Deck some years ago, but there was a lot of discourse online in the past few years wondering if the Switch's successor would be able to run FFVII Remake, though perhaps the fact that other games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 were shown first it convinced everyone that it was possible.
Still, it always felt like Final Fantasy VII Remake would never be released outside of Sony consoles not until the trilogy was completed first, though now it makes wonder if Rebirth will arrive on the future, though the thing is that while some are impressed that FFVII will run on the Switch 2, we have to remember that it's technically and updated version of a PS4 game and the Switch 2 seems to be at least a bit more powerful than a base PS4, the fact that S-E didn't mention any release date also kind of worries me, I hope it can be come out this year and also if the game will lauch in a single Game Card, it seems CD Project Red confirmed that Cyberpunk's Switch 2 port will be released complete on a single Game Card, while Square-Enix couldn't bother to gave Bravely Default on the Switch 2 a physical release.
Also, as I mentioned, the original Switch managed to received native ports of all of the mainline FF games from I to XII, but I find it kind of weird that the Switch 2 will get FFVII Remake first, I wonder if S-E is planning on porting the XIII Trilogy and XV later.
