I had no idea that the Japanese never saw this version of "Mega Man." I always believed that it got there in the 1990's. And,it's got it with Japanese subtitles. I've got a feeling it's going to be successful. Very successful. So successful in fact,that there are going to be those that want this show dubbed into Japanese.
If you think I'm kidding,consider this. People here thought that the "Dirty Pair" TV series was never going to get an English dub. Now,it's in the final stages of getting one. I remember seeing this version of "Mega Man" when it first came out. It's very good. Based on what I saw in the most recent "This Week In Video Games" article,with all the fan art it's gotten,this show's going to be very big in Japan. So,yes. It's going to be extremely likely this show is on the fast track to get a Japanese dub. It wouldn't surprise me if it did. Oh,and one other thing. That post on Japanese social media that said that this is "a version of Mega Man no one knows about."  I almost laughed when I read that. It should have said that it's a version no one in Japan knows about. We in America and a few other places know about it,and have enjoyed it a lot. I think they'll enjoy it as much as we have. Another thing in it's favor is that it was made with the help of Japanese animators. I think they'll really love this,almost as much as we in America have. You can count on it.

Snomaster1, you're not alone. I was surprised to find out that the Ruby-Spear's Megaman never had an official Japanese release until this announcement. I wonder if this will lead to other American animation adaptation of Japanese IP getting official Japanese release like for example Hanna Barbera's Godzilla from 1978. I couldn't find any video of a Japanese dub or maybe an exclusive episodes made for the Japanese broadcast (well in the similar vein that Mighty Morphin Power Ranger had the Zyu2 footage made for the American version that was not found in the original Zyuranger, which MMPR was based on). I was told it was broadcasted in Japan, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of that, and another Godzilla wikia page said that the HB's Godzilla didn't seem to have any Japanese broadcast at all hence why I can't find any video of HB's Godzilla having any Japanese dub, or any footage of HB's Godzilla having exclusive episode made for the Japanese broadcast. I hope Toho and WB could allow the Hanna Barbera's Godzilla to get an official Japanese release over there too just like Ruby Spear's Mega Man now got an official Japanese release many years later. I want to see what the Japanese G-fan and audiences think about HB's take on Godzilla given that Hanna Barbera franchises are well-loved in Japan and several anime paid homages to Wacky Races (and Wacky Races seem to have merchandise in Japan).
I also would like to see a release for Lion Voltron's "season 2" in Japan since that one was an American exclusive and not originally found in GoLion, that means this character, Queen Merla was not in GoLion (that's why you can't find her in the original Japanese version and that's why she doesn't have a Japanese name). And I hope that can extend to releasing Voltron: Fleet of Doom in Japan since it never received a previous Japanese release. I mean you have both GoLion and Dairugger XV teaming up together in a film that only American kids watched in 1986, but not a single Japanese fan are able to access it (well except for fansubs and maybe bootleg VHS tapes with Japanese fansubs are probably the only way a small number of GoLion and Dairugger XV fans in Japan were able to see Fleet of Doom). If the Ruby Spear's Mega Man does so well or does way better in Japan then all of us anticipated, then maybe there's hope for Hanna Barbera's Godzilla, and Voltron: Fleet of Doom could see an official Japanese release over there many years later. Right now, seeing the Mega Man cartoon finally getting an official Japanese release brings me hope for HB's Godzilla and Voltron: Fleet of Doom getting one. |

Now we just need them to release both the American Street Fighter and especially the Darkstalkers cartoon to the Japanese.
Oh, can they get them to release all the US Mario cartoons to them, too? Heck, even that Zelda one. |

I liked all the art and memes coming out of it from Japan but I wasn't the biggest fan of the show as a kid since. I was always mad at how they made Protoman/Blues a villain since he was one of my favorite characters. But it was still the era where seeing any kind of recognition for video games on TV was a novelty so I watched it along with the Mario and Sonic cartoons.

And don't forget Captain N: The Game Master (since that one I recall didn't receive any Japanese release). Yeah, I also 2nd the idea of releasing the listed items above since they deserve Japanese releases. I mean why not, we had the Japanese Transformers series (The Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, & Victory) getting a US/North American release a decade back after many years (until it went out of print back in 2021), so it's fair game for Ruby Spear's Mega Man, American Street Fighter (I want the Street Fighter comic done by Malibu Comics to also get a Japanese release too), the American Darkstalker cartoon, that Legend of Zelda cartoon that was featured in The Super Mario Bros Super Show! along with Super Mario Bros 3 the animated series, and the Super Mario World animated series to get Japanese releases like the Ruby Spear's Mega Man animated TV series just got in the same way we got & restored the Super Mario isekai anime film many years later for American and international audiences with the 2023 Super Mario Bros Movie making an homage/reference to it, that's a big honor for it. Please also release all 3 Sonic The Hedgehog American animated series (with Jaleel White voicing the title character): Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (1993-1994 sequel), and Sonic Underground in Japan too since those never received any Japanese dub nor any previous releases. And I'm glad I brought up Sonic not only because of the live-action/CGI movies, but because and I have mentioned this in the past, but IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comics got translated in Japanese (along with IDW's Transformers comic. Yes IDW's Transformers comic have received Japanese translation and release over there) back in 2020. The Sonic the Hedgehog comic from IDW did so well in Japan, they had to re-print volume 1 because of the high demand from Japanese consumers, I've never seen anything like this, and this is significant for 2 reasons:
Speaking of Sonic the Hedgehog, I think maybe we should try having the Archie's Sonics comic series get a Japanese release too. If IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic can do so well in Japan, then maybe Archie's Sonic could do well too, and also: can other American comic/graphic novels based on Japanese IPs replicate this same success? Maybe IDW's Godzilla comics could also be replicated given that I found out that "many" of IDW's Godzilla comics have received Japanese translation, I also just found out that Dark Horse's Godzilla, King of the Monsters 1995 comic just received a Japanese translation/release back in 2022. I don't have the sales number for IDW's Godzilla comic (& I don't know or have any sales data on how the Dark Horse's Godzilla comic collection's Japanese release did in Japan or was received). But after seeing IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog comic did so well in Japan, and now the Ruby-Spears Mega Man animated series now officially getting a Japanese release: Maybe we should give American adaptation of Japanese IPs whether it's a comic books/graphic novels and/or animated series a Japanese release. I mean we owe it to them, and the Japanese audiences and fandom are already aware of this thanks to Wikipedia, Youtube, and other means of information access. I want Udon's Street Fighter, and Darkstalkers OEL comic/graphic novels to be given Japanese translation & releases. I also want to see Marvel's Godzilla comics from 1977-1979 to also be given a Japanese release too since it was announced that it'll be getting a re-print omnibus release, along with Hanna Barbera's Godzilla animated TV series. I want to see Adam Warren's Dirty Pair OEL comic to get a Japanese translation/release given that we got the 2010 manga courtesy of Seven Seas Entertainment in 2019. I mean it's about time some of these American adaptations of Japanese IPs get Japanese releases. |

Oh, and I just realized that Kevin Keene/Captain N is an isekai protagonist and the premise of the series is similar to today's isekai anime. So Captain N predated .Hack, Sword Art Online, and KonoSuba by almost 2 decades. In one of my post, I also called upon to have American comic book/graphic novels based on Japanese IPs to be given Japanese translation and release, and I think the Nintendo Comic System (which has Captain N in there too) which was published by Valiant Comic. And there are 2 reasons why I want this publish in Japan:
I mean the isekai genre is selling well, why not take advantage of this craze by selling an isekai series like Captain N in Japan that pre-dated KonoSuba, and Sword Art Online and also given that the IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog sold so well in Japan, and now Mega Man animated series has finally gotten an official Japanese release and a lot of internet hype from Japanese netizens, why would you not want to release Captain N in Japan? |

I'm more with Southkaio than you,mdo7. I had a look at both articles. Now,they may be negative on a Japanese dub of the American "Mega Man" series...until it actually gets one. There have been a few anime like the "Dirty Pair" TV series that many said would never get an English dub,until they eventually got them. This may be the case here. It looks like it's going to be very popular over there. Popular enough to warrant a Japanese dub. It might happen. Never say never,mdo7. There's a strong possibility it might happen.
Also,many of the reasons that a lot of American comics haven't doing well in recent years have been to a number of factors. Among them ugly art and way too much politics in them. Hopefully,they'll be able to realize that most people are getting tired of political sermons in their comics as well as in other entertainment. They want to entertained,not lectured to all the time. A lot of people at DC and Marvel realize this,but they're too slow in routing out the crazy activists that have done nothing but ruin their brand and the industry as a whole. If they want to save the comic book industry,they're going to have to clean house of all the crazies that have been there and start hiring people by merit instead of political orientation. It maybe difficult but it has to be done. Hopefully,this also open the door to other American versions of their shows like "Captain N:The Game Master." I don't know how the Japanese will react to it,but I think it'll be interesting to see. I hope it happens soon. I'd really like it if they did. |

The Street Fighter American animated series is hated by fans of the game in the US (well, I don't hate it), and yet it still got a Japanese release. So if Capcom is able to get that American Street Fighter cartoon to get a Japanese release, then I don't think Nintendo would barred it. That, and because Captain N: The Game Master has now been made available on Youtube, I don't think Nintendo Japan fully hate it's American animation adaptation. And as I said, I think Nintendo should have Captain N release in Japan (both the animated series, and the short-lived comic series) officially given that the protagonist, and the series is basically an American isekai animation series. I mean Kevin Keene/Captain N is similar to all the isekai protagonist found in today's isekai anime, and there's an isekai craze in Japan. So why not take advantage of the craze by releasing Captain N series (including the comic) in Japan to take advantage of that.
I don't think a 30 year something old cartoon could end up getting a Japanese dub, if it did, then Street Fighter: The American animated series would've already gotten a Japanese dub since it's release over there like NJ_ pointed out. How come that one hasn't gotten a Japanese dub since the franchise itself is pretty much well-known in Japan like it is in the USA? Care to explain that? I don't think Ruby Spear's Mega Man will get a Japanese dub even if it become a Japanese internet meme very recently, if the American Street Fighter series didn't get one, then I don't think this one will get it.

Oh, so that Street Fighter American animated series has been available in Japan since 2019, thanks for the info!!! NJ_, beside the American Street Fighter animated series, and Ruby-Spear's Mega Man cartoon, have any of the other American cartoon/animation adaptation of Japanese video game/IPs been made available in Japan? Have any of the 3 Super Mario Bros American cartoon have ever gotten any Japanese release? What about Sonic the Hedgehog? Has Captain N: The Game Master gotten any release in Japan? If any of these hasn't gotten any release, now would be a good time for them to get a Japanese release I mean, why not, we got anime/manga adaptation of western IP and miscellaneous stuff that got English-language releases in the US/North America like for example the X-Men: The Animated Series manga adaptation that Viz Media picked up, and also the Transformers: The manga that Viz also picked up and released. It should be fair game/trade for American cartoon and comic book adaptation of Japanese IPs to get a Japanese release too. |

Except I don’t think that would be feasible as IDW currently has the comic rights to Sonic. And even if it somehow did the earlier chapters of the book pre reboot would never be reprinted because of the Penders Lawsuit.
Comic books have had ugly art on and off since at least the 80’s/90’s the end result of when you put new artists on books every few years. Whose unique style either doesn’t work for the assignment they’ve been tasked or simply doesn’t work period,
The problem with modern comic books isn’t the political leanings of their writers/editors but the fact they either keep retreading ideas that they’ve done already done or refuse to change status quos on a more permanent basis or just simply poor planning/management. |

IDW was able to re-published/re-prints Star Trek comics titles from Marvel and DC, and I know this because I've read several Star Trek Omnibuses/Classics re-prints from IDW which has both DC and Marvel titles in them. If IDW is able to re-print Star Trek titles that were originally published by DC/Wildstorm and Marvel, then they should be able to re-print Sonic comics from Archie's, and yes I've been reading up on the Ken Panders lawsuit and Scott Fulop lawsuit and I can understand re-publishing that particular series could be next to impossible. But that doesn't stop any of other Archie's Sonic comic series like Sonic Boom comic, and the Sonic Universe comic from Archie's to get re-published. So those could get not only re-publish with IDW's green light, but also they could get Japanese translation and release. Beside IDW and Archie's, some of the UK's Sonic Comic titles/lines do also deserve Japanese translation & releases too. Speaking of Archie's, I found out that there is also an Archie's Mega Man comics, if those have not gotten Japanese translation and release, that would be another thing to test the water in Japan alongside the Ruby-Spear's Mega Man cartoon. I want to also add that I have never seen the Sonic/Mega Man: World Collide crossover comic getting a Japanese translation, so there maybe fan in Japan that might want to read this and wanting an official release over there. I mean why not, we already have the Naruto/TMNT crossover comic (and I anticipate this particular title series to get a Japanese translation/release). If the Naruto/TMNT comic does so well in both USA and Japan, then why not have the Sonic/Mega Man: World Collide crossover comic get a Japanese release. There maybe people in Japan that like the idea of Rockman teaming up with Sonic, and the idea of crossover is not that crazy given that Japan does Super Robot Wars, and Shonen Jump crossover fighting games.
Manga are not immune from this too. They can have good story, but with a horrible artwork/drawing. Comic book/graphic novel can have good story, but also bland or mediocre art. To me both manga and American comic/graphic novels are alike when it comes to good or bad story and good or bad (or even mediocre) artwork. Out of all the comic book/graphic novel, I do adore Alex Ross's artwork on most of the tile I've read with his artwork.
Yeah, this one I sort of agree although not counting some good comic/graphic novels that I've read out there, or one that is decent enough for my taste and entertainment. As I said in a private message/PM with Snomaster1, comic/graphic novels has always been political since even before the Golden Age of Comic. Manga can get political too by the way, and like comic/graphic novels, manga has always been political since 1960's, and even before Osamu Tezuka was born. But back on topic, I still want to know if other American cartoon of Japanese video game or IPs ever got Japanese release. Does anybody know if Challenge of the Gobots, and the movie sequel, GoBots: Battle of Rick Lords ever got an official Japanese release? The reason I asked is because of both of the American cartoon done by Hanna Barbera are based on the Machine Robo toyline in Japan. Given that we got both Machine Robo anime released in the US/North America, then I think it should be fair that both GoBots cartoon should get Japanese releases if it has not received one in the past. I mean come on, I want it release in Japan the same reason why every American adaptation of Japanese IPs should receive Japanese releases. |
