I think it's worth getting excited about reading, too. While not the masterpiece of the era or anything, it's an extremely fun, jaunty little (big?) book. The stories are an interesting look at shoujo through the late 60's through the early 70's (most of them were published as short series in different magazines. EDIT: as the article actually points out!). The artwork is absolutely gorgeous for every story in the series, and Asuka's humor is 100% on point. About the only sour note are some racially insensitive background characters in some of the stories, probably most obvious in the yuri vampire one shot included in the collection. |
