I’m not a Rick & Morty fan anyway, but the visual style doesn’t look appealing to me.

Yeaaah...
I don't know why but this was kinda underwhelming.

It's not that American shows can't have an anime adaptation but, it just makes me wonder what the point of this preview was. I think when the preview of an episode of the original show comes up, it's a little more palatable? This is just showing chaos happening but it's not really substantial.

I guess also I would have to be used to the sub, and normally I wouldn't care but...nothing about this showcases their acting either. Yes, I know there is going to be a dub for it but still...

God I probably sound like a huge buzz kill right now

It vaguely feels as if it's trying to bite off of that Crayon Shin-chan vibe, and failing miserably (but it is just a preview).

Still no less baffling to see than when it was announced.

Every time I see anything about this show I think God is punishing me, personally, for my many sins.

I like the western show, I guess the Japanese VA makes it more like anime, but the animation and art looks more like not-so-great 3D with a bit of a forced attempt to bring back 80s anime/movies style. As in stuff like lots of action with few frames, and the manga-style action/speed lines.

So it's less like a modern anime, and more like a homage to a few very specific styles, like tokusatsu, perhaps some regular Japanese mafia and samurai movies, etc.
It ends up looking more Tarantino-esque than modern anime style itself. Talking about the preview alone.
As for the chaos... well, that's usual for Rick and Morty itself.

It'll probably be quite fun for fans of the show... I can't be overly critical because tbh, I can't think of a better way of doing a "Rick and Morty anime" that wouldn't end up like this. It's not like they'd be able to do something like Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man or Jujutsu Kaisen with well defined already existing material. Then again, the fact that I can't think of ANY anime that would look anywhere close to that... Sexy Commando? xD

I mean chaos with substance and dialogue. If I recall the Rick and Morty previews didn't give a lot away, but you were able to get an understanding of what was going on even with the chaos.

This was just... nonsensical and not in a good way, imo. It didn't make me feel excited for the show at all. Tbh, Two Crows was enough of an anime reference to me. And the Voltron parody. And the callback to Sailor Moon. Those are what I can remember off the top of my head

I am a Rick and Morty fan, and I've also seen the anime shorts that came out. Those were fun. This will take getting used to. I'm sure it'll probably be amazing. But I don't think I can't watch it subtitled.

I'm with those who aren't exactly fans of "Rick and Morty." I never watched when it was a cartoon. Why would I want to watch it when it's an anime? Sure, fans of the show will like it but what about those of us who aren't? There's just little real reason for us to tune in for it. I'm not going to be watching this show. As I said before,it's for fans of the show, not for anybody else.

Another Toonami original that'll end up with an embarrassing low MAL average.
