They probably shouldn’t have split the title into two words.

A strong premiere review -- nicely put! Especially that first paragraph -- it rang true to my hope and inevitable disappointment in both Tokyo Revengers and Bucchigiri.
A small detail that I really appreciated (if a bit over-exaggerated), is how Sakura's appearance is also strange within the show.
I'm curious if we'll end up with a fleshed out backstory for the origin of his appearance. I've only seen episode 1 so far. Looking forward to episode 2! I think I'll love the eyepatch boy.
The opening is also lots of fun.

This series made me remember how Ichigo having orange hair and how everybody thought he was a delinquent for it was a huge deal at the beginning of Bleach.
Then Kubo forgot a bout it.
Anyways, the series is exactly what I thought it would be, aspires to be nothing more and success at it, so, fine by me.

the only thing that is unlikable about this series is ok. being an anti hero deliquent, but haruka at times act like a poor man version of adonis from kingdom of ruin at worst, and a poor man version of nagi from tengo tenge!
their lonely boys that wants to lash out at the world for all the bad things that happen to their lives

In a different series, Haruka could be an insufferable protagonist. The show constantly undermining his expectations does a lot to make him more bearable.

Yeah why didn't those Espadas and Quincies judge Ichigo by his hair! That would have been very much on topic during those life and death struggles! What the heck Kubo!
Anyway, where is all the farting? The show is called Wind Breaker...maybe they are saving them up for later? Much like what happens to me when I go to a Brazilian steak restaurant.

This show is really highlighting for me the importance of production values in hand-to-hand combat focused shows. There are some types of shows that can get away with limited animation but ones with big fights really can't. I had a lot of frustrations with Tokyo Revengers but one of the biggest was how unimpressive every fight looked. I'm struggling to remember a single standout fight from that show. Meanwhile neither of the fights in this episode were the 'main events' of this arc so to speak (as Nick said no-name characters) but each had me on the edge of my seat and I immediately rewatched both. Even if everything else about this show sucked (and it doesn't) it would be worth watching for the fights alone and that's great.

I agree reviewer...this episode was too much... all I want is a character to pass gas. Is that TOO MUCH TO ASK?!?!?!? In a show called WIND BREAKER?!?!

For me the problem with Wind Breaker since it started on this tournament arc is simpler and boils down to the eight deadly words: "I don't care what happens to these people".
I'm here for Sakura's journey, not to solve the mental problems of some randos from another school. Choji is a bore, your average smiling little boy psychopath and having him whale on Umemiya unopposed for most of the fight doesn't make for an entertaining episode either.
This had all the flaws of most tournament arcs: the nonimal protagonist is given short shrift to people I don't have any reason to care about and who will likely not matter after this, the fights are too long and too much time is spent on flashbacks about why I should care about them. Not to mention the lack of consequences for the main villains, Togame and Choij who whatever their reasons, still were shown beating up their own comrades.
If this had been two episodes, one showing the beatdowns of the three blokes that never matter and the second showing the Togame and Choji fights it would've worked better for me, but now I just found myself irritated with the entire episode.

I guess I'm much more inclined to get emotional. Episode 9 wasn't too much for me. I really felt for the guy. It was a good episode with good depictions of trauma and loss of one's hapoiness in life.

At this point I don't think they even have teachers or any adults there at all. I think we're dealing with a Camp Nowhere situation.
