Aria is a great series, but it's definitely not something everyone can appreciate.

I want to end up collecting this series, but since I already bought the first three ADV volumes, I don't know if I want to get the TOKYOPOP versions again. Are there enough translation differences that would warrant another $30 spent, or should I just wait for volume four to hit stores?

I've been worrying over the same thing, but I think I'm going to go ahead and buy them for consistency's sake. (You could say the TP collection is the main one, and flaunt your ADV vols. like an OOP elitist.) Razz

I've really enjoyed Aria so far. When I heard TP had rescued the license, I quickly grabbed up the volumes ADV had released, primarily for the original cover art and color pages. I don't regret it at all, and would encourage anyone who wants the title to try and do the same. ADV did a great job with this release, and you won't see the same quality in the TP volumes. (Note: translation is comparable on both sides, the TP volumes are just, IMO, likely to be ugly print-wise without the right cover art or color pages based on the first volume of Aqua and their overall history with these things)

After seeing TP's release of Aqua, I've pretty much decided I'm just going to wait for volume 4 to come out rather than give TP money for something I already have in legitimate form. The lower quality when compared to ADV's volumes is just too great, and really not worth the extra money. I'm glad we'll finally get the release completed over here, but still highly disappointed in TP's lack of care with the title (though not entirely surprised).
