No matter how you look at it, it's pretty awful. People were promised one price and then a company didn't die, they were bought out and that agreement is not being honored. It's awful. But CR has always been greedy and awful. AI subs thing just further proves that

I still have a support ticket open (now at 3 weeks) about my situation because I have both a legacy Funimation subscription and a legacy Crunchyroll subscription.
I guess I'll go ahead and cancel the Funimation one since I really don't want it to impact my Crunchyroll subscription pricing.
Edit: The email I originally received from Crunchyroll contradicts what the article says. The email said my pricing would not change.
Quote: | Your monthly membership will continue on Crunchyroll at the same price per month based on your current Funimation subscription. |
However, I don't even have monthly subscriptions as mine are still yearly on both Funimation and Crunchyroll.
I really wish their support would respond back after moving my ticket to a "specialist" 3 weeks ago.

After all the price hikes and the monopoly they were allowed to create I stopped buying the memberships through them. There are digital gift card key resellers that sell the 12 month subs at crazy low prices. I just renewed for 4 more years at $39 a year.

No surprise there, its €39 a year for a 12 month subscription where I am.

Since I started watching CR, which was way back in 2012. The price was like $5.95/month and I currently pay $6.67/month. Very reasonably priced, and even if it went up to $100/year, still cheaper than when I was paying for VRV (no longer exists) or Netflix (which doesn't have nearly as much anime, nor updates very often). So, even when there was claims of CR's price going up to $100/year, it's still cheaper than previous and other options available, and frankly, the catalogue doesn't often remove titles.
I've tried a variety of streaming services for anime, and CR tends to work better than the competition of the past and present, though VRV worked the best for me.

I'm sorry, but this is a stupid take. If a company is bought out, that entity no longer exists and the agreements you had with it are null and void. The fact that SONY allowed the price to remain that low for over 2 years is something they weren't required to do, and yet people are still calling them not-so-nice-people. Should they have dissolved that price immediately, as they were legally allowed to?

What an extremely dumb take? Why should a Funimation subscriber pay less than a Crunchyroll subscriber when both would be using the same service? Get off your Crunchyroll cool-aid.

that, combined with not allowing to transfer the digital versions will cause two things to hapoen!
A) a reduction in digital sales and an increase in dvd sales,
or B) and this option is the worse case scenario: alienate enough subscribers to sail the high seas aka resort to online pirate streaming websites! in fact, there are those on social media and on reddit that have said they will do just that!

Let's not kid ourselves. Those who were vocal about CR were never subscribers in the first place, and are just doing that to justify them watching it on shitty malware-infested streaming sites.

If ya want to watch anime legally just get a VPN and watch some at youtube. Muse Asia is mostly free and Ani-One do lock some shows behind membership but for you lot it will be pretty cheap.

That's my point. They shouldn't. CR let them have the lower price for 2 whole years, and now people are complaining that it's going away, even though they shouldn't have had it to begin with.

I'm still waiting for my compensation. Let alone for my order I placed several weeks a go. What a mess.

Here’s the facts! US law states you do NOT own digital content. The company of the creator owns all digital content. It can be removed, deleted and no longer available at the content owners will! You own nothing! They are loaning you the content for the purchase price with every digital download. They can scrub it from your devices! That’s the reality of digital content! It’s a waste and company’s do NOT want to sell physical copies! You own those! End of debate!!
