I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

Ok, I feel like this is a message.

Gonna finally start my big Masamune Shirow anime marathon in order of release / airing with Black Magic M-66.

I want my cyborg body with brain-machine interface now!

In all seriousness, great watch. It's been over 10 years since I last watched Stand Alone Complex though.

If only we had a decent Blu-Ray release of the series, thank you very much Anchor Bay.

I clipped the newscast from episode 5 to post to a Discord server I'm on. Get a chuckle from like two people, and confuse like five people.

Kinda crazy that we're closer to the events of Ghost in the Shell SAC, then we are to the year it came out in.

There's really nothing wrong with the us set except for dubtitles (which don't bother me a bit as I'll only watch it dubbed) and the very slight audio problems which I never even noticed. The video is quite good and the dub is excellent and the price of each set is fire sale priced.

I wound up going with the UK release, which fortunately didn't have the audio issues.

GiTS: SAC was one of the very first anime series I stumbled across, and to this day few things have topped it. Just an absolute masterpiece.

It's been a while since I watched GITS, I thought it was set way further down the line. This is neat though, I always like when dates line up with "future" stuff in fiction. The last one I remember is in 2022 when Sword Art Online was supposed to launch.

Yeah, those kinds of things are a bit disappointing because not only do we not have the technology, but we're probably not even close. I don't think we'll be seeing any full cyborgs anytime soon.

Elon Musk is doing his hardest to introduce cyber brain technology with his terrifying Neuralink nonsense, so I do wonder if perhaps Ghost in the Shell’s world is only a few years delayed for us… The original manga was so incredibly prescient in so many ways, and Stand Alone Complex is by far the best iteration of the franchise. I really don’t want people having the ability to remotely hack my brain though, so please someone stop Elon from cyberconverting everyone into his own personal techno hellscape dystopia…

Musk isn't the first to introduce the tech (as usual), and other companies involved in medicine and medical tech have made strides in safety with it. There doesn't appear to be a danger with the new devices like what happened in the monkey experiment, and even the FDA has approved its use. I'm still extremely skeptical and don't see myself volunteering my body to science for this, but I've been reading around as articles have shown up in science magazines and it seems to have some potential benefits for some people who use electronic limbs, helping them control these hands with their mind just by imagining their use. It's kinda fascinating.
