Well-deserved! My brother introduced me to this amazing series with the pitch, "It's like if Mulan was Sherlock Holmes." Maomao is absolutely one of my favorite protagonists in years, and the atmosphere and political intrigue are top-notch.

I cannot wait to read the light novels.

And in the meantime Amazon unlisted freshly published e-book vol. 10 from J-Novel in their shop. According to JNC themselves, they sent a complaint 10 days ago but it may take time to resolve. Crying or Very sad

But these numbers give me hope that at least one more season will be greenlit. I really want them to finish the first big story arc in the anime, not just stop in the middle of it.

I was surprised this didn't get a physical print option much earlier, in time to release with the anime. There were a number of people I wanted to gift a physical volume to over Christmas. Feels like a lot of missed sales that will die down by May when the anime is finished...
The digital version is great! The anime has done a very good job of capturing the tone of the book.

That's great to hear! I hope that means the anime will get to continue as well.

Honestly, I will be surprised if they don't go for a sequel straight away at this point considering the traction of popularity in both anime ratings in Japan and the sales gains of the novel.

Me too. Unlike some other stories, this one has plenty of source material to adapt. There are 14 (!) volumes of the light novel already. Given the popularity, I am pretty sure 2nd season is already greenlit internally by the Production Committee.

The problem is that if they go straight ahead with the story, it is going to outpace both manga adaptation of the light novel very soon. I am not sure if this is something either publishers want since it cannibalizes each other a bit. Unless they stuff it with filler or something, since mystery-based story, like Detective Conan, can turn episodic very quickly. It could be good or flop real bad if they do this.

To compromise, they may announce a 2nd season but not say when. Maybe give both manga a bit of room to breath, and then air it late 2025 or early 2026. I don't see another season within 2024. If it is late 2024 or early 2025, then it might be only one-cour. That won't outpace the manga.

S1C1 covered Vol1-4 of the Square Enix version's manga, which is paced slower than the Shogakukan version. S1C2 likely will cover Vol5-8. Vol9-12 are out, enough for a single cour and Vol13 is due out in March. There are usually 3ish volumes every 2 years. To not outpace the manga, but enough material to cover for two-cours, we will need to wait until Vol16 is out, which will likely be late 2025 or early 2026.

If anything, they most likely will not care about outpacing the manga story compared to striking the iron while it's still hot - for example, TenSura's second season did exactly that during the time of its run even despite the huge COVID delay, but it didn't affect the manga sales - and we're talking about probably the biggest current seller of LN adaptation in manga form in Japan.
